BJP leader shot dead at home

A local BJP leader was shot dead by suspected Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, police said.

The incident took place around 8 pm when Sagar Sahu, vice president of the Narayanpur district unit of the BJP, was at his home in Chhotedongar village, said an official.

As per the preliminary information, two unidentified persons barged into Sahu’s house and shot him in front of his family members.

The injured Sahu was taken to the Narayanpur district hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the official said.

“Prima facie the incident seems to be the handiwork of Naxalites but investigation is underway, he added.

On Sunday, Neelkanth Kakem (40), president of Awapalli mandal unit of the BJP, was hacked to death by Naxalites in Bijapur district.

The MeT office on Saturday predicted dry weather in Jammu division and rain and snow in Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

“Dry weather in Jammu division and scattered to fairly widespread rain/snow is likely to occur in the Valley during next 24 hours”, an official of the MeT department said.

Srinagar recorded 0.5 degree Celsius minimum temperature, Pahalgam minus 2.4 and Gulmarg minus 8.3 degrees.

In Ladakh region, Drass town registered minus 7.7 degrees Celsius, Kargil minus 6.7 degrees and Leh minus 10.4 degrees.

Jammu had 9.5, Katra 8.8, Batote 2.4, Banihal 1.8 and Bhaderwah 1.1 as the minimum temperature.

Jammu: The Jammu Police on Saturday arrested a notorious drug seller allegedly selling drugs through his house windows at TalabTillo in Jammu.

As per report, some days ago a sting operation was conducted exclusively by JK media, after getting inputs that sales of drugs is being done by a man through a window of a house in the mentioned police.

After getting the information, SSP Jammu along with his team swung into action and pored over the CCTV footage which they got from the cameras installed in a nearby residence and detained the culprit.

Mega-demolition drive underway in Jammu

In Jammu, the mega-demolition drive on the illegal encroachments on government land resumed on Saturday and is currently underway in Malik market area of Bathindi in Jammu district days after being halted.

Earlier this week, the drive was stalled due to stone pelting by the protesters carrying out demonstrations against the move. After a crackdown on the stone pelters, J&K police in a joint operation with the revenue authorities resumed the drive. The illegally occupied properties that are built on state land are being demolished by authorities.

J&K: Man dies in road accident

A 35-year old man died in an road accident in Hajin town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

An official said that the man identified as Nisar Ahmed Dar, son of Gh Ahmed Dar (35) of Shahgund suffered critical injuries after a car he was traveling in met with an accident at Bonikhan area.

He said soon after the accident, Dar was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

“After conducting medico-legal formalities the body will be handed over to his family members,” he said.

 

Patwaris go on 2-day strike across Jammu province, hold protest

Patwaris across whole Jammu province today went on 2-day strike to press the Government to redress their already agreed demands.

On the strike call given by All Jammu and Kashmir Patwar Association (AJKPA) Jammu, patwaris held protest in all different parts of Jammu province as they went on 2-day token strike to create pressure on J&K Administration to fulfill their demands.

In Jammu, the protest of patwaris was held in front of the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu. A large number of patwaries participated in the protest. They staged dharna from morning to evening while raising slogans in support of their demands which include increase in the grade pay of graduate patwaris, timely departmental promotion, providing Government accommodation for the Patwar Khanas and basic facilities for running the Patwar offices. They also sought ban on direct recruitment of Naib-Tehsildars and demanded creation of GQ circles and transfers of GQs out of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the protesting patwaries said that in support of their demands, all the Patwaris throughout Jammu province are on 2-day strike from today. He said they were forced to go on strike as despite assurance given by the Revenue Secretary in March 2022 that all their demands will be fulfilled within a month, nothing was done after a lapse of about one year.

Similar protests of patwaris were held in other districts of Jammu province. Patwar Association Poonch also went on two-day strike following the call of the parent body in whole Jammu province. All patwaris stage dharna at Patwar Khana District HQ Poonch and in Mendhar as well. They said that Government had promised to fulfill their demands last year in March but nothing has been done yet in that regard.

They demanded the Government to hike Grade pay of patwaries from Rs 2400 to 2800, bifurcate patwar halqas, grant 75 percent Naib Tehsildar quota to patwaries through promotion and issue gun licenses to them keeping in view terrorist threats.

Man rapes 12-year-old granddaughter, arrested after she gives birth

Police arrested a 53-year-old man on charges of raping his 12-year-old granddaughter and impregnating her.

The minor gave birth to a child in November and was in a critical condition for over two months after that, police said, adding that a case was registered in the matter after the child’s mother reported the crime on December 6 in Kolkata, West Bengal. A zero FIR was registered and the man was arrested from Faridabad, they said.

Police said the mother and daughter had gone to Kolkata in November for a festival. On November 17, the victim complained of abdominal pain and was taken to a private hospital where doctors informed them that the girl was 24 weeks pregnant, said police.

The police in Faridabad said they received the FIR through post in December but before they could arrest the suspect, he fled his rented room. The suspect switched off his mobile number and kept changing locations after he learnt from villagers that a case has been registered against him and that the police were looking for him, said police.

Yogesh Kataria, station house officer of Palla police station, Faridabad, said the minor’s mother told the police that her daughter confided in her about the sexual assault by her grandfather. The child delivered prematurely after which she was in a critical condition for over two months. “The child told the mother that the grandfather used to rape her when her parents were away at work. We have recorded her statement and are verifying all allegations. She gave birth to a baby prematurely but the infant is doing well,” he said.

The suspect was arrested from Palla area in Faridabad on Wednesday night and was sent to judicial custody after being produced before the court.

Big Update for J&K Students

The JK Board of School Education (BOSE) notified the date sheet of annual (Regular 2023) examination for class 10th to 12th students enrolled in schools falling in soft zone areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the date sheet issued by the Director Academics JKBOSE, the examination of class 10th students in soft zone areas will commence from March 9 of 2023 and will culminate on April 5.

Similarly, the examination of class 11th students in soft zone areas will commence from March 6 of 2023 and will culminate on April 19 respectively.
Also, the examination of class 12th students will commence from March 8 and will culminate on April 2 of 2023.

Notably, this will be the first Board examination conducted in March month post adoption of National Academic Calendar and implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) -2020 by the Jammu and Kashmir government.

As already reported, the JK Board has already notified the soft and hard zone areas of Jammu and Kashmir division.

As per the BOSE figures, around 444 schools- 309 in Jammu and 135 in Kashmir division fall in hard zones while seven zones of Kargil district and whole Ladakh area fall in hard zones.

In Kashmir division, 43 schools of Anantnag, Bandipora 19, Kupwara 32, Kulgam 28 and 13 schools in Budgam fall in hard zones.

In Jammu division 50 schools of Kishtwar, Reasi 47, Rajouri 7, Poonch 20, Doda 56, Ramban 64 and 65 schools of Udhampur fall in hard zones.
The examination of students in hard zone areas is scheduled to commence from April, 2023.

Man dies by suicide after killing wife

A 43-year-old debt-ridden man allegedly killed his wife and later committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at his residence in central Mumbai, police said.

The incident took place in the afternoon at a ‘chawl’ (old row tenements) in the Dadar area and came to light when relatives of the couple, Vinod Samjiskar and his wife Shubhangi, visited their home and found both of them lying on the bed motionless, an official said.

Samjiskar first killed his wife and then ended his life by consuming a poisonous substance, he said.

However, it was not clear how the woman was killed.

The couple has a 17-year-old daughter, who had left for college in the morning, said the official.

In a purported suicide note found in the house, the man wrote he killed his wife and is ending his life as he was “overburdened with debt”, said the police official.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem at a civic-run hospital, he said.

A case of murder and suicide was registered at the Dadar police station and further probe was underway, the official added.

Similarly, the power supply to Jhajjarkotli, Janipur, Lakad Mandi, Patoli, Janipur Colony, Pamposh Colony, Ambredhar Nagar, High Court, Daily Excelsior, Statistical Office, Upper Barnai, Lower Muthi, Paloura, Dogra Hall, Rehari, Resham Ghar Colony, Bus stand, Jewel, Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar, Kaleeth Mohalla, Kanak Mandi, Manda, New Plot, Sarwal, Part of Karan Nagar, JK Colony, ChandanVihar, PHE, MES Rajouri Lines, Patoli, Sheetli, part of Sidhra, Bamyal, MES Nagrota, PHE Sheetli, BSF Paloura New Secretariat, Subash Nagar, Muthi, Rajinder Nagar, Roop Nagar, Sheetli (PHE), LaxmiPuran, Swarn Vihar, Bharat Nagar, Ganga Nagar, Bantalab, Radio Station, BSNL, CRPF and Ayush Hospital shall remain affected on February 12 from 9 am to 2 pm.

Meanwhile, Executive Engineer, Electric Division-II, JPDCL Jammu has informed that the power supply to Sector E, Lane No. 7, 8 and 9 shall remain affected on February 15 and 19 from 8 am to 2 pm.

Similarly, the power supply to Sector E, Lane No. 7, 8, 9 and Sainik Farm shall remain affected on February 17 from 8 am to 2 pm.
