Amid forecast for generally cloudy weather with light rain at isolated to scattered places till March 20, the minimum temperature recorded further rise at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

A meteorological department official reported that Srinagar recorded a low of 5.5°C against 5.1°C on the previous night and it was 1.8°C above normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.2°C against 3.0°C on the previous night and it was 1.9°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 0.8°C, the same on the previous night and it was 2.0°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Jammu recorded a low of 15.0°C against 15.6°C on the previous night. It was 1.0°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil, he said, recorded a low of minus 3.6°C and minus 4.9°C respectively.

He said “generally cloudy” was expected during the next 24 hours.

“Afternoon thunderstorms at isolated places can’t be ruled out,” the official said, adding, “Generally cloudy with intermittent light rain with thunder at scattered places was expected during March 17-20.”

J&K’s Health sector gets highest-ever Rs 2097 Cr budgetary allocation

With an overarching goal of strengthening the healthcare services in Jammu and Kashmir, the UT’s health sector has received its highest-ever budgeted allocation of Rs 2097.53 crore in the budget 2023–24.

In contrast to the provision of Rs 1882 crore for health and medical education during the previous budget of 2022–2023, the financial allocation for the health sector has grown by Rs 215 crore. The total budgetary allotment for health and medical education for fiscal year 2023-24 is Rs 2097.5 crore.

 

Allocation for the health sector has been enhanced by11 percent to provide better facilities, control communicable as well as non-communicable diseases, improve maternal and child care services, strengthening secondary and tertiary health care, and provide health care at doorsteps,” said a senior official from the Health Department. “With an increased budgetary allocation, the government has set a target to reduce C-section deliveries in J&K by at least 20 percent and introduce Robotic Surgery at Government Medical College, Srinagar and Jammu.”

 

 

 

 

According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-5, which the Indian government released last year, J&K had the second-highest percentage of C-section births (42.7 percent).

 

According to another report, in Kashmir 82 C-section births were performed for every 100 cases.

 

 

 

 

“The operationalisation of a modern drug testing laboratory at Kathua and Jammu, as well as the achievement of TB-free status for the districts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, and Kupwara, are among the objectives for completion in the health sector that are listed in the budget document for the fiscal year 2023–24. Construction of a control and command centre at the government medical colleges in Jammu and Baramulla to provide better patient care is another objective as is strengthening of trauma care facilities in accident-prone areas by efficient use of resources, including staff and high-tech equipment for emergency diagnosis, particularly in regions like Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban,” the report said. “Other objectives include establishment of 25 Urban Health and Wellness Centres, 57 Block Public Health Units, four District Integrated Public Health Labs and one 50-bedded Critical Care Block, extension of telemedicine services for Intensive Care Units, extension of modules under the Health Management Information System (HMIS) for improving Public Health Delivery Mechanism and Patient Records under Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), and effective management for daycare chemotherapy in all districts.”

 

The report said that upscaling and updation of OPD and IPD facilities under Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, 100 percent screening of school children and other sections of the population, implementation of Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States (Tele-MANAS) implementation of tele Out-patient Department (tele-OPD), Unified Digi surveillance system in the health sector, health screening at panchayat level and 100 percent screening, surveillance of non-communicable diseases (NCD) and other diseases are other objectives.

 

Early identification of high-risk pregnancies and focus on postnatal care. Full (100 percent) immunisation coverage. Reinforce Anaemia Mukt Jammu and Kashmir. Radiotherapy equipment is to be made available at all the Medical Colleges. All 7 Medical Colleges to provide facilities for treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), ST Elevated Myocardial Infarcted (STEMI) stroke and chemotherapy are other objectives,” read the document.

Jammu: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by a 20-year-old  youth in Bakshi Nagar area of Jammu today.

As per report, The girl resident of Sarwal in Jammu was abducted by a man who lives in Janipur and who took the victim  to a secluded place, where he raped her.

 

A  police complaint registered by the family of the victim at Bakshi Nagar Police station said that the accused who is from Janipur abducted the victim  and took her to a secluded place and raped her.

After the incident the Bakshi Nagar police swung into action and nabbed the perpetrator within a short span of time.

A case has been registered at the Bakshi Nagar police station and the accused has been booked under the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO), the report said.

Jammu: Residents of Dedhni village in Doda District of Jammu have been without electricity from past several years as locals expressed resentment over the negligence of power development department due to unavailability of power.

The villagers  has said that they use lighted wood sticks and candles, lanterns to do household work.Many people go to nearby areas where there is electricity to charge their mobile phones and to even make a call.

“We get electricity for a very short period of time here,we have no electric poles, no power to do our work”, said, Ms. Sakeena, a villager.

“Its been a decade still we don’t have  electricity here. We are without power”, said, Ms. Nazia Bano, another villager.

“No one visits our village to gauge our electricity crisis, employees of Power dept like linemen, inspector don’t come here to check whether we have electricity or not”, she added.

“The people in this village are poor and we are facing harships”, she remarked.

“We are only receiving electricity bills every month but no light. We have to lit wood to check light in our bulbs”, she alleged.

“We have to travel nearby areas to charge our phones and to call someone”, she claimed.

“We appeal govt to provide us electricity as we can’t teach our kids without light, there are wooden poles here but they’re not electrified”, she said.

84,866 Posts Lying Vacant In 6 Central Armed Police Forces: Govt

A total of 84,866 posts are lying vacant in six Central Armed Police Forces like the CRPF and BSF against the total sanctioned strength of 10,05,520, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said recruitment of 31,785 personnel in the CAPFs has been done in the past five months.

The vacancies in the CAPFs arise on account of retirements, resignation, promotion, death, new raising of battalion, creation of new posts etc, he said.

As on January 1, 2023, there were 29,283 vacancies in the CRPF, 19,987 in BSF, 19,475 vacancies in the CISF, 8,273 in SSB, 4,142 in ITBP and 3,706 in the Assam Rifles, he said replying to a written question.

Rai said as on January 1, 2023, a total of 247 posts of doctors and 2,354 posts of nurses and other medical professionals were lying vacant in the Central Armed Police Forces.

Will Bring In Law To Protect Land And Job Rights Of People Of J&K If Voted To Power Says Azad

The Democratic Progress Azad Party (DPAP) will bring in a laws to protect land and job rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir if voted to power, its chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Wednesday.

The former J-K chief minister, who was addressing a public rally in Zaloora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, said the aim of his party is the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

“It is the basic fight. Otherwise, they will keep threatening us, taking away our lands, bulldozing our houses. So, It is very important to have our own government, chief minister, ministers and MLAs,” Azad said.

Azad said if his party is elected to power, it would also enact a law in the assembly to provide land and job rights to the people of J-K.

“Article 35-A was taken away. There were two main rights for the people of J-K because under that… We have to restore land and job rights. But, that can be done only through an assembly, by passing a law in the assembly so that outsiders cannot get employment or land here,” he said.

My party aims to get rid of poverty and unemployment by providing employment opportunities to the youth, Azad said.

He said he and his party colleagues do not fear anyone and will rid J-K “of the currently prevalent system”.

“We do not fear anyone, we do not fear any raids, we are not afraid of being jailed. We have not done anything in our life to fear either the central government or the state government,” he added.

Jammu: In an astonishing incident, some unidentified men on Wednesday thrashed a Matador driver and allegedly kidnapped him, when the matador met with an accident with a car on Palli Morh in Bishnah in Jammu.

As per the report, the incident happened when a matador bearing registration number (JK02AW8412) and a Scorpio car met with a mishap  in Palli Morh in Bishnah, after which some unidentified men came and beated the matador operator and abducted him.

“They came in a car and started beating the driver. I don’t know why they attacked him. Some boys came and assaulted him. I’m his conductor”, Mr Akshay kumar, Conductor of the victim driver said.

After the incident SHO Bishnah Vikram Sharma with his police team reached at the crime scene and started an investigation into the matter, the report said.

Later the Bishnah police clear the suspended traffic movement at the crime spot, the report said.

Jammu: An army man died of suspected heart attack in Sawjian area in Poonch district on Wednesday, officials said.

They said that one Naik Sunil Kumar faced a major heart attack while on duty and died instantly.

                          20-year-old girl missing, family seek public’s help

Jammu: A 20-year-old student of GDC college Samba has gone missing since yesterday’s morning. She is a resident of Manohar Gopala village in Samba of Jammu.

The missing person, identified as Vishangi (20), studies in GDC Samba.

According to the report, Vishangi left her home to attend college in the morning but didn’t returned to her home after that.

The victim routinely used to return her home from college everyday between 3-30pm in Manohar Gopala village in Samba, but when she didn’t arrived yesterday her family members launched search for her in the area, the report said.

The family members also inquired the girl’s college friends and also asked their relatives but didn’t find their daughter anywhere.

Lastly, they registered a missing complaint at a police station in Samba. The police also then launched a search operation for the girl and they traced her last location in Kathua, but they have not found her yet , the report further said.

        Dozen employees dismissed for having terror links: LG Sinha

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said so far 47 employees have been dismissed from their services as they were having terror links.

“The statement I made a day ago about jobs were given to militants was based on facts as action has already been taken against many people,” he said, while talking to reporters.

Sinha said that computer based examinations that were deferred yesterday will be conducted once Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board will be fully satisfied.
