The CCTV footage of the Sunjwan encounter has surfaced on the Internet. It can be seen how the terrorists attacked the bus with a grenade in the early hours of Friday. In this CCTV footage, first, a motorcycle is seen coming, which stops on one side of the road after crossing the barricade. After a few seconds, as soon as the CISF bus carrying CISF jawans reaches the barricade, then terrorists attack it suddenly. Firing starts immediately after its attack. In the attack by terrorists, ASI SP Patel of Satna district of Madhya Pradesh was sacrificed, while 10 CISF personnel, including two police personnel, were injured.

The terrorists carried out this attack just two days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu. However, in this encounter, the security forces killed both the terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed. The terrorists carried out this attack in the early hours of Friday in Jalalabad of the Sunjwan military area. First, he threw a grenade at a bus full of CISF personnel and then fired indiscriminately at the gipsy standing ahead. Hearing the sound of gunshots, army personnel patrolling nearby also reached. Police, CRPF and other contingents of CISF also reached the spot. Jammu ADGP says terrorists killed in Sunjwan encounter planned to inflict heavy damage

On Friday, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh said that the security forces eliminated the two Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sunjwan were planning to inflict heavy damage. However, Singh added that the “intervention of intelligence agencies and security forces” helped avert major damage.

ADGP said, “With the kind of vest (IED vest) they were wearing, it is clear that they had come here to inflict heavy damage and their designs were quite nefarious, but with the timely intervention of intelligence agencies and the security forces, this major disaster has been averted.”

Briefing the incident, he said that an area in Sunjwan was cordoned based on inputs received by intelligence agencies in the wee hours of Friday.
“We maintained the cordon throughout the night. At around 4 am, terrorists tried to sneak out and attacked police personnel in which five personnel got injured,” Singh said.

Further, he added that the security forces had managed to keep the terrorists in the cordoned area, after which a search operation was launched, and both the terrorists were killed.

“We have recovered a large number of arms and ammunition and an IED vest. We’ve now cleared the site, and operation is now formally over,” ADGP said.

Security forces neutralised two terrorists during an encounter in the wee hours on Friday in Jammu’s Sunjwan area.

Two AK-47 rifles, arms and ammunition, satellite phones and some documents were recovered.

Security Tightened Across Jammu After Sunjwan Attack

Security has been beefed up in the city after a terror attack in the Sunjwan area, two days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu. Security forces have averted a major suicide attack by terrorists in Sunjwan, but still, full precaution is being taken. After this terrorist attack, blockades increased across the city on one side. The city is also being monitored closely with the help of drones. Even after the terrorist attack in Sunjwan, the drone kept hovering in the sky till the search operation was over after eliminating the terrorists there.

Security has been beefed up at military camps after the terror attack. It is feared that before the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Samba’s Palli Panchayat on April 24, terrorists were trying to carry out some major incident. In such a situation, they can target the camps of the security forces.

On the other hand, after this attack, additional blocks were put up on all the routes connecting the border areas with Jammu city. Apart from RSpura to Satwari, Arnia, Bari Brahmana, special nakas have also been put in all the border areas of Ramgarh tehsil in the Samba district. People coming from the border areas are being monitored on these posts. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up on the Jammu-Pathankot and Jammu-Srinagar National Highways. Military camps and police stations adjoining these highways have also been specially instructed to alert.

NIA to Take Over Probe in Sunjwan Encounter

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will take over the investigation into the attack by militants at the Sunjwan army camp on the outskirts of Jammu early on Friday, following which one security force personnel was killed and nine suffered injuries during a gunfight.

Top government sources told that the NIA would be probing the Sunjwan case, soon issuing the notification. However, the scope of the investigation needed a serious and specialised agency, the sources added.

Earlier in the day, an NIA team reached the Sunjwan area after a CISF vehicle carrying 15 personnel was attacked by terrorists two days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu. One security personnel was killed in an ensuing gunfight, while nine were injured.

Soon after the attack, security forces gunned down two militants while two guns and a satellite phone were recovered. Jammu, additional director general of police Mukesh Singh, said the encounter in Sunjwan started when the special operations group of the police and the CRPF launched a joint search operation in the area.

According to officials, the operation was launched on specific information about the presence of at least two heavily-armed terrorists, likely belonging to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit, in a vicinity adjacent to the sprawling Sunjwan military station to carry out a major strike. Instead, the terrorists hurled a grenade and opened fire on the search parties, who retaliated, triggering a gunfight.

Security forces, meanwhile, have been put on high alert ahead of PM Modi’s visit.

In another long encounter that began early on Thursday and lasted 40 hours into Friday evening, a top commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and his two aides were killed in the Baramulla district. Police said four militants had been killed, but only three bodies had been recovered.

Among them was Yousuf Kantroo, a militant who had been active in the Valley over the past two decades. But, one of his aides, a 17-year-old boy, had been a recruit for only a month. Modi is visiting on National Panchayati Raj Day on April 24. He is scheduled to visit Pali village, 17 km from Sunjwan, to address a gathering. This will be the PM’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir other than the borders since the abrogation of the special status of the erstwhile state and its bifurcation in August 2019. He had observed Diwali with army jawans on October 27, 2019, in Rajouri and on November 3, 2021, in the Nowshera sector in the Jammu division.

The first three months of the year have already witnessed a 100 per cent increase in the number of jawans killed in encounters and 58 per cent more injuries in the Valley compared to the same period last year, according to the data compiled by security forces.

Multi-tier security activated ahead of PM’s visit in Jammu

A multi-tier security setup has been put in place for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Samba on Sunday, officials said, hours after two suspected Pakistani terrorists were killed during an encounter in Jammu.

An alert has also been sounded along the border, and a high degree of vigilance is being maintained at vital installations in Jammu and Kashmir in view of the visit.

Their remarks came after an attempt by the banned terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) to carry out a suicide attack ahead of the PM’s visit was foiled as two suspected Pakistani terrorists were killed in the encounter in Jammu. A CISF officer also died during the gunfight.

“A multi-tier security setup has been put in place in Samba and adjoining areas as a part of foolproof security,” a senior official said.

The venue of the public function has been made out of bounds for the general public, and a three-tier security arrangement has been made after conducting a full-fledged anti-sabotage checking, officials said.

The administration has been making arrangements to participate one lakh people in the programme.

Alertness in border areas has been raised, and various security agencies have enhanced vigilance on vital installations in the region.

The security establishment carried out several drills on Friday, including the landing of choppers and the movement of vehicles.

Sources said there are inputs about a greater threat perception this time.

Intercepts have also been received about possible threats, adding one group of terrorists was neutralised Friday.

They said some high-end surveillance equipment had been inducted into the security setup to ensure foolproof security.

In Jammu and Kathua, security has been beefed up with frisking and increased vehicle checking.

This will be Modi’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir other than his trip to the borders post since the abrogation of the special status of J&K in August 2019.
