‘Depressed’ over mother’s death, 2 brothers commit suicide

Nearly nine months after their mother died, two music teachers ended their lives at their Keesara home. Police said the brothers were in depression.

M Srinu Reddy (58) of Rampally in Keesara said their sons, M Yadi Reddy (30) and M Mahipal Reddy (28), went into a 8 depression since October last year after his wife Prameela had died of health complications.

Srinu, who is a mason, went out for work and at 4 pm, neighbours called him to return home immediately. “Srinu rushed back home and found Yadi Reddy hanging from the ceiling fan. Mahipal Reddy was lying dead on the bed. We suspect that he consumed poison,” Keesara inspector P Raghuveer Reddy said.

Police found a suicide note signed by both the brothers. “We are ending our lives due to lack of mother’s love. No one is responsible for our deaths,” the siblings said. Based on a complaint from Srinu, police registered a suspicious death case under CrPC section.
The two siblings along with their elder brother M Madhava Redy were working as music teachers in Gandipet. Srinu told police that the death of his wife had severely affected their two younger sons.

“Srinu Reddy said that Prameela suffered from chronic ailments and died due to health complications,” police said.

National flag at Islamia school for the first time in 115 years

For the first time in over a hundred years the Indian national flag has been raised atop the Islamia Faridiya School in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar area. The national flag replaces the Islamic flag a top of the school building on the eve of two days annual day function at the institution named after 17th century Sufi Saint Hazrat Shah Mohammad Fareed Ud Din Baghdadi.

The commemorative function was attended by the Chairperson of the Waqf Board of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Daraksha Indrabi, DDC Chairperson Kishtwar Pooja Thakur, Imam of Jamia Masjid Kishtwar Farooq Ahmed Kichloo, leaders of banned Jamat e Islami, DDC members, ex-administrator Auqaf Islamia Kishtwar and others.

A day earlier the Indian Army had on Sunday established a flag post at a government school in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir under ‘Operation Sadbhavna’. According to a spokesperson, this was a part of the initiative by Chinar Air Defence Brigade wherein construction of national flag posts in 10 government schools in far flung areas of Budgam district in central Kashmir is planned.

Officials said that 130 AD Regiment of Chinar Air Defence Brigade established a flag post at government school had undertaken the initiative in line with the Union government’s policy of establishing national symbols across government buildings.

Earlier on Saturday Union Minister Jitendra Singh had said said that Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar would become a major power hub after the completion of the ongoing power projects. The lawmaker had held a meeting with the Chairman and Managing Director of the National Hydro Project Corporation AK Singh, and discussions were held regarding ongoing projects of NHPC in Jammu and Kashmir and prospects of future business development.

 

 

 

 

Chenab bridge will soon bring all-weather rail connectivity to Kashmir

Ministry of Railways on Thursday said that the world’s highest rail bridge, which is being built across Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir will soon bring all-weather rail connectivity to Kashmir.

The bridge will provide the much-needed all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the county. “With 88% completion of deck launching, Chenab bridge will soon bring all-weather rail connectivity to Kashmir,” informed Ministry of Railways on it’s official twitter handle.

Notably, this bridge is world’s highest railway bridge as a part of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link (USBRL) project and is being constructed by the Northern Railway at an estimated cost of ₹28,000 crore.

J&K: 15 people injured in stray dog attack

At least 15 persons including a teacher and two children were injured in stray dogs attack in north Kashmir’s Handwara on Thursday.

Locals sources said that stray dogs created panic in Gundchobutara Kralgund village of Handwara. They said that dogs attacked at least 15 persons who were shifted to District Hospital Handwara.

Sarpanch Naseer Ahmed Khan confirmed that 15 persons including a teacher and two children were taken to the hospital with dog bites. He said they are being treated.

Meanwhile, locals alleged that there are no anti-rabies vaccines in the hospital.

Guidelines issued for Subordinate Judiciary regarding visits of Chief Justice, other Judges of High Court

The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has laid down guidelines for sub-ordinate judiciary on visit of Chief Justice /Justices.

According to the circular issued by the Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court no Judicial Officer shall receive, see-off or visit the visiting the Chief Justice/ Judge during court hours. During the official visits of Chief Justice/Judges, a senior non judicial administrative officer will receive and see-off and provide protocol services to them as per norms.

If the visiting the Chief Justice/Judge wants to hold a meeting or address the judicial officers, it will be done either before or after court hours. If the visiting Chief Justice/Judge wants to call judicial officer for official purposes, he will be called either before or after the court hours. No judicial officer will visit the visiting Chief Justice/Judge unless called for official purposes. No arrangements for any private visit of the Chief Justice/Judges shall be made by any judicial officer.

If the arrangements in connection with an official visit of the Chief Justice/Judges is required to be made by the district judge or the Chief Judicial Magistrate, all the bills shall be raised in the-name of and the payment shall be made directly by the High Court to the extent permitted and no personal funds will be used by any judicial officer for this purpose.
No judicial officer shall arrange any private trip including any excursion trip or visit to a religious place for the visiting Chief Justice/Judges. No judicial officer will arrange hotel, food or transport for the visiting the Chief Justice/Judge, their staff members and security personnel. No judicial officer or court servant will offer or provide any gift or hospitality to the Chief Justice/Judges.

No function will be organized by the Judicial Officer(s) during the visit of the Chief Justice/Judges except official functions organized on written direction and at the cost of the government. Any violation of these instructions will be considered as gross misconduct rendering the concerned judicial officer to strict disciplinary action.

In the event of visit by any Chief Justice and the judge of the High Court no judicial officer shall be assigned duty as Liaison Officer and that only a senior non-judicial administrative officer will perform the services of a protocol officer unless such an officer is not available in which case preferably Mobile Magistrate/Traffic Magistrate or Leave Reserve Officers, if any, will be assigned duties as Liaison Officers and no Judicial Officer or the District Judge shall receive or see off the Chief Justice or other Judges of the Court during court hours at the road-side of the Highways or at any other places.

J&K Police constable dies of cardiac arrest

A policeman died of cardiac arrest while he was on duty in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district late last evening, officials said on Thursday.

An official said that Nisar Ahmad Mugloo, a selection grade constable in J-K Police suffered a heart attack last evening.

He said that he was shifted to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The deceased was posted as Personal Security Officer (PSO) of District Development Council (DDC) member of Larooo.

Man kills wife after argument

A 49-year-old tailor, who allegedly killed his wife after an argument, surrendered before the Bengaluru police on Wednesday after calling the police helpline and confessing to the crime.

The police identified the accused as Danendra Reddy, a resident of Mathikere near Yeshwanthpur, and his wife as Anasooya (42). Police said that Danendra committed the crime when his 14-year-old daughter was in the house and allegedly tried to kill her too.

According to the police, on Wednesday, around 4 am, a drunk Danendra got into an argument with Anasooya over a Rs 2 lakh loan that he had availed and failed to repay. Police said that Danendra stabbed Anasooya while his daughter was sleeping next to her. Danendra allegedly also stabbed his daughter and assumed she had died.

Danendra then spent at least two hours inside the house, police said. It was when his daughter woke up and approached him that he broke down and called the police helpline, police added. Before the police arrived, Danendra attempted suicide but failed, a police officer said.

 

Srinagar-Jammu Highway remained closed for 3rd consecutive day

Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for a third consecutive day on Thursday due to landslides triggered by heavy rains at various places along the highway, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded, officials said.

“Around 1500-1600 vehicles are stranded on both sides of the highway. Efforts are on to restore the highway as soon as possible,” the official added.

The official said there will be no movement of any vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar on Thursday in view of a major landslide near Dewal bridge which has damaged 100 to 125 meters of both tubes of highway.

“The NH is also blocked at Cafeteria Morh, Tunnel T2 and Battery Chashma where restoration work is still going on and will continue Thursday also,” he said.

The official further added that likewise vehicular movement from Jammu to Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Gool, Banihal, Srinagar and vice-versa shall also remain suspended because of the closure of NH near Dewal bridge.

As per traffic advisory, people are requested not to undertake any journey on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and other mentioned routes till clearance work is completed.

On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Leh highway, vehicular movement shall be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa.

Similarly, on the Mughal road, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu.

Light to moderate rain continued in J&K during the last 24 hours as the MeT department forecast generally dry weather for Thursday.

Water level in all the major rivers and streams in the Valley started to recede since morning after the flood threat loomed large during the last 48 hours.

“Weather is likely to remain generally dry in J&K till the month end. There is no danger of flood in the union territory as of now”, an official of the MeT department said.

Srinagar registered 10.8, Pahalgam 8.6 and Gulmarg 2.5 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

Leh in Ladakh region recorded 6.6 and Kargil 9.3 degrees as the minimum temperature.

Jammu had 21.2, Katra 19.8, Batote 11.7, Banihal 12.6 and Bhaderwah 13 degrees as the minimum temperature.

 

 

Jammu: Man arrested for trying to click pictures of lady taking bath

Acting tough against crime against women, Channi Himmat Police arrested a man for trying to click pictures of lady while taking bath and theft.

As per police sources, a complaint was lodged by a lady with Police Station Channi Himmat stating that a man allegedly tried to click her pictures on his mobile when she was taking bath and also stole cash.

Acting over the complaint, a case under Sections 454, 380 and 354 IPC was registered at Police Station Channi Himmat and hunt was launched to nab the person.

A team from Police Station Channi Himmat led by SHO Deepak Katoch after checking the CCTV cameras footage of the area finally arrested the accused, who was identified as Hem Raj, son of Mani Ram, a resident of Channi Bija District Jammu.

Further investigation into the case is going on.
