The yellow lines being drawn outside the shops to prevent encroachment in the markets and vandalism being carried out by the Jammu Municipal Corporation as part of the anti-encroachment drive in the city for some time have been postponed for some time. There was a widespread protest against this action of the Municipal Corporation in Jammu, and the traders of the city came out on the streets against it.
In Shivaji Chowk of Nanak Nagar, the municipal team broke the showroom instead of the Prem & Co warehouse and broke the shutter of Tawi Builders in Gandhi Nagar at Lost Mod Gandhi Nagar; despite the stay order, this anger of the traders increased. So was. In view of this, the administration has decided to stop this action.
In the city’s Moti Bazar, shopkeepers protested against the yellow lines being drawn outside the shops. The Chamber had also expressed its displeasure over this action of the Municipal Corporation during a meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Arun Mehta on Thursday morning. According to sources, considering the issue raised by the Chamber, the Chief Secretary convened an important meeting on Thursday evening and directed the Municipal Corporation to stop its process of vandalism and drawing yellow lines.
“We are glad that the administration listened to us and stopped this move. From the beginning, we have been saying that if anyone has constructed in violation of the rules, then along with punishing them, those officials should also be penalised during whose tenure the construction was done in violation of the laws. As far as drawing the yellow lines outside the shops is concerned, where will he put the goods in his shop if the shopkeeper does not put the interests in his shop? This action of the municipality was utterly irresponsible. Our trader has already suffered a lot due to the Corona pandemic. In such a situation, the government should help them and not harass them without any reason. We thank the administration for putting a stay on the action of the Municipal Corporation”, Arun Gupta, Head Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu.
