The first phase of DDC elections has started. K.K. Sharma, State Chief Electoral Officer informed media about the arrangements and safety measures taken for the voting.
He also told that the allegations about non-allowance of campaigning are false and Mehbooba Mufti was warned about campaigning due to security reasons.
He said “DDC general elections are happening for the first time in the history of J&K. All the arrangements have been done within all 20 districts. In phase, there would be 43 DDC constituencies – 25 in Kashmir and 18 in Jammu division. Presiding officers and polling parties have gone to polling stations already. The voting will start at 7 am and end at 2 in the afternoon. Polling parties, ballet papers and manpower have reached in regions with snowfall like Kishtwar, Doda, Bandipora, etc.”
“Because covid19 is going on, I would suggest all the electors of phase 1 to vote with masks and identity documents and maintain a social distance of 6 feet in the queue while voting. They must use the sanitizers kept at the polling stations. Presiding officers and polling parties have been kept safe.”
Complaints on twitter were tweeted by many candidates about non-allowance of campaigning for the elections.
Regarding this he said “No restrictions were imposed on any candidate for campaigning. However, keeping in mind the security reasons in sensitive areas, Police had adviced the candidates about provision of a time-table and transport with security. These instructions were given during our review meeting with Inspector General of Police of Kashmir and SSP. Time has already been maximised and other phases where campaigning is in process, extra time will be given. Candidates with any problem can bring in our notice.”
“He further added that Madam Mufti wasn’t in house detention as tweeted by the J&K Police. She wanted to campaign in 50 km far area where the security issue with her travel was a lot. Therefore, she was adviced not to go.”
