Jammu, February 11: Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana informed the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday that the government has sanctioned a new Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS) for Zainpora constituency to strengthen local irrigation infrastructure.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Showkat Hussain Ganie, Rana said the “Construction of LIS Heff Lonepora, Shopian” has been approved under NABARD RIDF-XXXI at a cost of ₹2.39 crore. The scheme will cover a Cultivable Command Area of 50 hectares, providing assured irrigation to agricultural lands. The project is targeted for completion by 2029.
During the discussion, MLAs Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir, M Y Tarigami, and Shabir Ahmad Kullay sought additional clarifications. Rana assured that modernisation of irrigation schemes is a priority and that steps are being taken to improve irrigation facilities across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in rural and agriculturally significant areas.
