The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration will hold a meeting of its constituents in the Jammu division on December 21 to discuss several issues, including their reach out to New Delhi and opposition parties regarding abrogation of article 370 sources said here on Friday.
Sources told that the PAGD meeting would be presided over by its presidents and NC Parliamentarian Dr Farooq Abdullah.
They said that the meeting had been convened to discuss several issues, including their reach out to the Central government, civil society members and opposition parties in New Delhi regarding the abrogation of Article 370
They said that the meeting would also discuss further course of action regarding a writ petition filed by its spokesperson M Y Tarigami in the Supreme Court regarding article 370
Sources said they would also discuss the ongoing delimitation process in Jammu and Kashmir and future strategies regarding the same.
Pertinently, this is for the first time that PAGD will hold its meeting in Jammu after it came into being.
Meanwhile, senior leader and NC Parliamentarian Hasnain Masoodi confirmed that they had convened a meeting in Jammu on December 20 to discuss several issues, including their reach out to New Delhi, civil society members and opposition parties abrogation of article 370.
He also said that the situation prevailing on Jammu and Kashmir would also be discussed in the meeting.
Meanwhile, sources also said that the National Conference members of parliament, who are also members of the delimitation commission of Jammu and Kashmir, are likely to participate in the commission meeting on December 20.
Notably, on Wednesday, senior vice-president of ANC and constituent member of PAGD, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, had told that they were stationed in New Delhi to reach out to different quarters and press for the revocation of Article 370.
Overnight Shopian operation called off after militants escape
The overnight military operation in Nowgam village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district was called off on Thursday morning as militants, believed to be two in number, managed to escape, reports said.
Two army soldiers were injured in the initial exchange of fire in the encounter that broke out on Wednesday evening shortly after security forces cordoned off the area following a tip-off about the presence of militants there.
Today, massive searches were launched at the first light in the morning, however, no militant was found the present following which the joint cordon-and-search-operation launched by police and army was called off.
A top police officer said that the militants “possibly escaped in the initial phase of the encounter in which two soldiers were critically injured”.
The officer said that intelligence inputs suggested the presence of two militants including a foreigner in the area.
J&K: Unidentified person killed, SPO critically wounded in train accident
On Wednesday, an unidentified person was killed, and a special police officer (SPO) was critically wounded in a train accident in the Kakapora area of the Pulwama district.
An official told the news agency that an unidentified person was hit by the speedy train who died on Kakapora. An SPO identified as Shabir Ahmed, while trying to save the unknown person, was also hit and critically wounded.
“The injured SPO was critically wounded and is being treated at SMHS hospital,” a doctor said, adding that his condition is very bad.
