SRINAGAR: A major multi-crore scam has surfaced in the Public Works (R&B) Department, Nowshera Division, where existing tendering norms have reportedly been blatantly violated to benefit favourite contractors.
Sources allege that officials manipulated procedures and issued single tenders, ensuring that lucrative works were allotted to a select few. The R&B and Mining Departments are accused of causing a massive loss to the government exchequer through irregularities and misuse of authority.
The issue has triggered a political storm, with Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of violating the Model Code of Conduct and shielding the corrupt.
Sunil Sharma and other BJP Members also urged the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take immediate action and bring those responsible to justice.
