Shopian, Jan 6: The Mughal Road is closed to vehicular traffic after fresh overnight snowfall, officials said on Tuesday. The historic route, which links south Kashmir with the Pir Panjal region, has seen nearly four inches of snow accumulation, making it unsafe for travel.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has deployed teams and heavy machinery to clear the snow, but officials warned that it will take time before the road is reopened. Locals and commuters have been advised to avoid attempting travel until an official clearance order is issued.
Frequent winter closures due to heavy snow and avalanches are common along the Mughal Road, and reopening will depend on improving weather and road conditions. Authorities said continuous monitoring is underway, and updates will be shared once traffic movement is possible.
