Poonch, September 2, 2025:
In continuation of his efforts to address the widespread devastation caused by recent floods, Hon’ble MLA Haveli, Mr. Ajaz Ahmed Jan, held a series of urgent meetings over the past two days at Dak Bungalow Mandi and Dak Bungalow Poonch, reviewing damages and charting out relief and rehabilitation strategies for the affected population.
The meetings were attended by senior officers of the District Administration including the Additional District Development Commissioner Poonch, ACD Poonch, Executive Engineers of PWD (R&B), PHE, Flood Control, JPDCL, Tehsildars of Mandi and Poonch, BDOs, and Municipal authorities.
Day 1 – Mandi (September 1, 2025):
Mr. Jan, accompanied by officers, visited several flood-hit areas of Mandi block, interacted with residents, and inspected damaged infrastructure. He directed officers to prepare detailed proposals for both temporary restoration and permanent rehabilitation.
• He announced ₹50 lakh from MLA CDF for Mandi Tehsil to meet urgent needs.
• He instructed the Tehsildar Mandi to submit a comprehensive damage report at the earliest.
• Key discussions focused on restoration of roads, water supply, electricity, and other essential services.
Day 2 – Poonch (September 2, 2025):
At Dak Bungalow Poonch, Mr. Jan convened another review meeting, where damages to Poonch Municipality, Poonch block, and adjoining areas were discussed. Special focus was given to Nangali Saibaba and other roads blocked by landslides, for which the concerned engineers assured clearance within days.
Later, Mr. Jan visited Sukha Khata area, where major property losses were reported. He directed officers to prepare both immediate restoration proposals and long-term protection works.
To support ongoing efforts, Mr. Jan announced an additional ₹50 lakh from MLA CDF for Poonch Tehsil, raising the total relief allocation to ₹1 crore (₹50 lakh each for Mandi and Poonch).
The MLA praised officers for their prompt response but firmly reminded them that public suffering must be addressed on priority without delay. He assured people that every genuine demand will be taken up seriously and that relief, rehabilitation, and restoration will remain his top priority.
Mr. Jan reiterated his commitment to stand firmly with the people of Poonch during this crisis and pledged to ensure that normalcy is restored at the earliest.
