Mercury Below zero in Valley, Freezing Cold in Leh and Kargil

The mercury continues to fall in Jammu and Kashmir amid clear weather. The night temperature has dropped below zero in all the districts of Kashmir. Temperatures are running 2-3 degrees below normal in all parts. The minimum temperature in the capital Srinagar was recorded at minus 2.3 degrees last night. It is cold in Leh and Kargil. According to the Meteorological Center Srinagar, the weather will remain clear in the coming days, but the cold will not bring relief.

The day temperature in Srinagar has also reached 13.0 degrees Celsius. Last night’s minimum temperature was recorded at minus 4.4 in the world-famous tourist destination Pahalgam and minus 0.6 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg. Last night’s minimum temperature in Leh was minus 8.5, and the day temperature was recorded at 5.5 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Kargil was minus 6.5, and the day temperature was 7.6 degrees Celsius. In Jammu, the day temperature was 24.3, and the minimum temperature last night was recorded at 9.0 degrees, amid clear weather. Last night’s minimum temperature in Banihal of the division was 5.8, Batote 6.2, Katra 9.6, Bhaderwah 2.2 degrees Celsius. It is a dry winter with no rain. This has increased health and skin related problems.


Cop escapes unhurt in militant attack

A policeman escaped unhurt in a militant attack in the Batmaloo area of Srinagar on Friday, reports said.

Sources reported that militants fired upon a police constable at about 3:15 pm in the SD Colony area.

However, the policeman escaped unhurt. Soon after the attack, the officer said that the entire area was cordoned off and searches launched.

He said that a case has been registered and further investigations have been launched.

Two brothers drown while extracting sand in Jhelum

Two brothers drowned while extracting stand in Jhelum river in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, reports said.

They said that brothers – Nissar Ahmad Malla and Hilal Ahmad Malla – drowned early today morning in the river while extracting sand near Jetty at Khwaja Bagh.

The family of the duo has been called and efforts are on to retrieve their bodies, said an official.

The brothers hailed from Littarpira village of Bandipora district, he added.

J&K: Massive CASO launched in two villages

Joint Forces launched a massive Cordon And Search Operation(CASO) in two villages of the Kulgam district in south Kashmir.

An official said that the operation on Friday was launched jointly by forces including RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police, and CRPF following inputs about the movement of militants in the Kakran Pombay and Katrasoo areas of Kulgam.

He said that the operation was launched following inputs about the presence of militants in these areas.

The search operations in both areas were going on when this report was being filed.
