Massive fire breaks out at Pune’s Serum Institute of India

An enormous fire broke out at Serum Institute of India (SSI) in Pune on Thursday afternoon. The fire was reported in a building near the Terminal 1 gate of the institute.

As many as ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire. Police and local administration officials have reached the site as well.

Coronavirus vaccine “Covishield” is being manufactured by The Serum Institute of India. . The vaccine is developed by the Oxford University and pharmaceuticals company AstraZeneca.

Serum Institute of India is the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer. It was founded by Cyrus Poonawalla in 1966.
