DEC. 15, DELHI: The Modi government is set to bring a new rural employment law, ending a two-decade era of the current rural job scheme.

Sources say that the flagship UPA-era rural employment programme, MGNREGA, is likely to be repealed. In its place, the government plans to introduce the “Viksit Bharat Job Law”, aimed at modernizing rural employment opportunities.

Reports indicate that the draft of the new law has already been circulated to Members of Parliament for discussion. Officials claim that this move is intended to provide more structured and skill-based jobs in rural areas, aligning with the government’s vision of a developed India.

This marks a significant shift in rural employment policy, potentially reshaping livelihoods for millions across the country.
