A man was arrested on charges of killing a woman in Bari Brahmana area of Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to police, on September 7 at 0700 hours, information was received through reliable sources that a dead body of a female was lying near Raghunath Temple at main bazar in suspicious circumstances, police said.
They further said that taking cognisance into the matter, an inquest proceeding was initiated to ascertain the cause of death and during the the course of inquiry, the dead body was identified as Rinku Devi, wife of Chaterwali Singh, resident of Village Lodipur, Patriya, Jehanabad, Bihar, at present, Village Dollian Bari Brahmana.
”It was surfaced that the person namely Puran Chand alias Bitu of Ward Number No 13 Bishnah compelled the deceased to develop illicit relation as he was living in her neighborhood,” police stated and added that on September 6, the accused identified as Puran Chand called the deceased lady in his rented accommodation at Telli Basti, Bari Brahmana with the intention to sexually assault her.
When the deceased lady resisted him, he assaulted her both physically and sexually as a result she started bleeding excessively and subsequently died, police further stated.
”The accused later took the dead body, abandoned it near Raghunath Temple and fled away from the spot,”police affirmed.
Acting swiftly, a police team arrested the accused within 24 hours after the occurrence of murder, they said adding that a case has been registered and the investigation started.
