Srinagar , Dec 29 : Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience generally dry and cloudy weather over the next week, with brief spells of light to moderate rain and snowfall due to an incoming weak Western Disturbance, according to weather forecasters.

December 29 is expected to remain mostly dry with cloudy skies, with very light snowfall possible over higher reaches along the Zojila-Drass axis.

A fresh Western Disturbance is forecast to hit the region on December 30, bringing light to moderate snowfall mainly in the Kashmir Valley. Precipitation may intensify in the afternoon and continue overnight. There is a roughly 40 percent chance of light snowfall in some plain areas, although widespread snow in plains is unlikely.

From December 31 to January 1, cloudy conditions will prevail, accompanied by light to moderate rain or snow at isolated locations. While significant accumulation in plains is not expected, temperatures may drop slightly, increasing the chance of light snowfall in some lower areas.

Dry weather is expected from January 2 to January 5.

Forecasters have advised residents, especially in higher altitudes, to exercise caution during snowfall and urged travelers to monitor advisories for mountain passes.
