Srinagar, Nov 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have expressed deep grief over the devastating accidental blast at Nowgam Police Station, which resulted in nine deaths and left 31 people injured.
LG Sinha, in a message shared on X, said he was deeply pained by the tragic incident. He conveyed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished speedy recovery to the injured. He also announced that a detailed inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
He assured that the administration is extending all necessary support to the affected families.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also voiced his sorrow, stating that the incident was extremely distressing and that his thoughts were with the bereaved families. He prayed for the quick recovery of everyone injured in the blast.
The explosion occurred late Thursday night when a large quantity of explosive material—seized recently during investigations into the Faridabad terror module—accidentally went off inside the police station premises. Among the deceased are a State Investigation Agency officer, a Naib Tehsildar and a local tailor. Police officials, forensic experts and civilians are among the injured currently undergoing treatment.
