Mumbai, Dec 19: Panic gripped a residential area of Bhayandar East on Thursday morning after a leopard entered homes along Talav Road, injuring at least five people from the same family, officials said.

The wild animal reportedly caused chaos after straying into the neighborhood and is currently confined inside the Parijat building. The Mumbai Fire Brigade rescued an injured girl from the premises and rushed her to a hospital for treatment. Later updates confirmed that a seriously injured woman was also rescued from a house window and taken to hospital on a stretcher.

Teams from the forest department and emergency services are carrying out a rescue operation to safely capture the leopard. A specialised squad from the Thane Territorial Forest Department was dispatched soon after reports of the animal roaming in the residential area.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Sachin Repal urged residents to stay calm, maintain distance, and avoid provoking the animal, warning that any confrontation could worsen the situation. Volunteers from an animal welfare NGO are also assisting forest officials at the spot.

Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored and advised residents to remain indoors until the leopard is safely captured and relocated.
