Ministry of Home Affairs has informed that the last date for filing nominations for Padma Awards is on Wednesday.
As per the official communique by the ministry on Tuesday, it read, “Online nominations/ recommendations for the Padma Awards (Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri) to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day, 2022 are on. The last date for nominations for Padma Awards is September 15, 2021.”
The nominations/ recommendations for Padma Awards will be received online only on the official Padma Awards portal.
The ministry informed that the government is committed to transform Padma Awards into “People’s Padma”.
All citizens are therefore requested to identify talented persons whose excellence and achievements really deserve to be recognized from amongst women, SC/STs, divyang persons and who are doing selfless service to the society and make nominations/recommendations.
The nominations/recommendations should contain all relevant details specified in the format available on the above said Padma Portal, including a citation in narrative form (maximum 800 words), clearly bringing out the distinguished and exceptional achievements/service of the person recommended in her/his respective field/discipline.
Further details in this regard are also available under the heading ‘Awards and Medals’ on the website of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The statutes and rules relating to these awards are available on the website.
The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honours of India announced annually on the eve of Republic Day. The Awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order) and Padma Shri (distinguished service). The award seeks to recognize achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved.
The Padma Awards are conferred on the recommendations made by the Padma Awards Committee, which is constituted by the Prime Minister every year. The nomination process is open to the public. Even self-nomination can be made.
Modi at UNGA: PM announces world’s first DNA vaccine for Covid-19 from global stage
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the world’s first DNA vaccine against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) from the global platform. Addressing the 76th United Nations General Assembly in New York, PM Modi said that the DNA vaccine can be administered to everyone above the age of 12.
“India, which lives on Sewa Paramo Dharma (service is the main duty), is engaged in vaccination development and manufacturing despite limited resources,” Modi said at the UNGA.
“I want to inform UNGA that India has developed the world’s first DNA vaccine, which can be administered to all people above the age of 12 years,” he added.
The prime minister was referring to Zydus Cadila’s Covid-19 DNA vaccine which received emergency use approval from the Drugs Controller General of India last month. The company expects to administer the first licensed shot from October but, according to the government, the price remains a “clear issue”.
On Thursday, NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr V K Paul told a press briefing that a decision on making the indigenously-developed needle-free Covid-19 vaccine as a part of the country’s vaccination programme will be taken soon. He said that preparations are underway and repeated discussions have been held to bring Zydus Cadila’s DNA vaccine in practical shape and implementation.
“The price is also a clear issue. Talks are going on and a decision will soon be taken. With full preparation, it will become a part of the country’s national vaccination programme. We are looking forward to receiving recommendations of the NTAGI on the beneficiary or target group to which the vaccine has to be given. The work is in progress and you will hear more about this in the times to come,” he said.
Two new airports to be established in J&K: Union Minister for Civil Aviation
Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said that new two airports shall be established in Jammu and Kashmir soon.
He said this during an interaction programme with DDC, BDC members, PRIs and locals at Harwan block of Srinagar district.
As a major development, the Minister said that an airport worth Rs. 1500 crore shall be established on 25 thousand square kilometres in Kashmir, while as another airport worth Rs. 650 crore shall be established in Jammu on 22 thousand square kilometres land size.
He said that since a special focus is being given on development of both air and road connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, a major road network including highways, ring road, tunnels and other projects are being constructed across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
The Minister said that the development of connectivity shall bring more tourists to J&K and promote local craft. He said that the promotion of tourism and crafts shall boost economic activity and prosperity of people of J&K.
Scindia said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, an era of peace, progress and development has already started in Jammu and Kashmir and all the three regions including Ladakh have come on track to become number one in construction and development in the country.
He said that among other major projects, work was going on in full swing on ring road worth Rs 3000 crore, while as 100 percent households are being supplied electricity now, made possible by current dispensation.
The Minister said currently 82 percent population is connected and being supplied tap water, however, the government is committed to cover all households in near future.
He said that the Modi led government was not only successful in curbing corruption in J&K but sectors including health, education and others have also flourished in the UT during these years.
Present on the occasion, various DDC and BDC members, sarpanchs and other PRIs spoke on the occasion and raised their demands.
The demands raised by the members included bridging developmental gap between urban and rural areas, construction of degree college and AYUSH Hospital in Harwan, development of area for rural tourism, better health and education facilities, deduction in power and water tariffs, loan waivers for drivers among others.

1.77 lakh treatments authorised in J&K hospitals under Ayushmaan Bharat Scheme: MHA
In Jammu and Kashmir 1.77 lakh treatments have been authorised under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Scheme, a 38 page booklet issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reveals.
They also reveals that after 40 years, the work on Shahpur-Kandi dam project was resumed while the work on Ratle Hydropower Project is also being resumed.
“Around 4.4 lakh beneficiaries have been verified in Jammu & Kashmir under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Scheme. Under this scheme, 1.77 lakh treatments have been authorised in the hospitals of Jammu & Kashmir, for which, an amount of Rs 146 crores has been authorized,” It reads.
The booklet reads that Jammu and Kashmir is at the forefront in availing benefits under the PM Kisan Scheme in terms of beneficiary percentage as a ratio of total population.
“Under this scheme, 12.03 lakh beneficiaries have been included so far,” it said.
The booklet reads that under PM Awas Yojana (rural), 1.34 lakh homes have been sanctioned.
“Work on Shahpur – Kandi dam project, which was stalled for 40 years, has been started again. Ratle hydropower project work is also being resumed,” the booklet said.
It said that under the Prime Minister’s development package 2015, of about Rs 80,000 crore, 20 projects have been completed and the rest are at different stages of implementation
