Ladakh reports 4 new Covid cases

Ladakh recorded four fresh COVID-19 cases Tuesday, taking the tally to 20,608 while the active cases in the union territory went down to 30, officials said.

Ladakh has registered 207 Covid-related deaths – 149 in Leh and 58 in Kargil – since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.

Four patients of coronavirus were cured and discharged from hospitals on Sunday, thereby taking the number of recoveries to 20,371, which accounts for 98.8 percent, officials said.

All the four fresh cases Tuesday were reported in Leh, they said.

A total of 1,894 sample reports in Ladakh, including 546 in Leh and 1,348 in Kargil, were found negative, they said.

There was no death reported due to Covid in Ladakh Monday.

ITBP wins both male, female roller-skating competitions in Ladakh

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Thursday emerged as the winner of the first-ever roller skating competition organised in Ladakh, said the ITBP on Friday.

The competition was organised by the Ladakh Roller Skate Association in collaboration with the District Youth Office which began at Leh (11,500 feet) and ended at Khardung La (17,578 ft).

In the male category of 42 km, the first 3 positions were secured by the ITBP personnel who are a part of the Central Ice Hockey Team of the force.

Constable Namkar Dorjee won the competition with a timing of 3 hours 45 minutes while Constable Regzin Norboo and Constable Tashi Tsering secured the second and third positions respectively.

In the female category of 21 km, Constable Diechen Spalzes of ITBP won the race with a timing of 2 hours 57 seconds.

Traffic suspended on Srinagar-Leh national highway

Traffic was on Friday suspended on the Srinagar-Leh national highway, the only road connecting Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir valley.

No vehicle was allowed from either side on the highway for weekly maintenance of the road at Zojila pass, a traffic police official told UNI today.

He said the UT Ladakh and J&K has agreed to suspend traffic on the highway on every Friday to allow Beacon authorities to undertake weekly maintenance and repair at Zojila pass, which remained closed during winter months due to heavy snowfall and avalanches.

Traffic official said both way traffic will be resumed on Saturday subject to fair weather and good road condition.

Traffic resumes on Srinagar-Leh national highway

Traffic resumed on Saturday on the national highway, the only road connecting Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir after remaining suspended for weekly maintenance yesterday.

A traffic police official told UNI today no vehicle was allowed from either side on the Srinagar-Leh national highway for weekly maintenance at Zojila pass.

He said traffic had resumed today. However, Kashmir bound vehicles will ply from Kargil to Srinagar between 0600 hrs to 1100 hrs. Later Ladakh bound vehicles will ply from Sonmarg in central Kashmir after down convoy reaches there.

The UT administrations of Ladakh and J&K have decided to suspend traffic on every Friday to allow Beacon authorities to undertake maintenance and repair on the road at Zojila pass to ensure the highway remains open for two-way traffic on other weekdays, they told UNI.

The authorities have already started winter stocking in different parts of Ladakh which remained cut off during winter months due to heavy snowfall.

The highway this year remained closed for about five months from January Ist due to accumulation of heavy snow and avalanches, particularly at Zojila.
