Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jammu, under administrative control of SKUAST-Jammu working under the dynamic leadership of Prof J P Sharma Vice Chancellor and overall supervision of Dr S K Gupta Director Extension, organised one day Awareness cum training program at village Kattal Batal, Tehsil Nagrota of Jammu District to sensitize the rural women as a part of the celebration of National Nutritional Week, during Rashtriya Poshan Maah being observed across the country. The programme was attended by farm women while observing all SOPs of COVID- 19.
The program was organised in continuation to the various activities being undertaken by KVK Jammu for mass sensitization towards identification and tracking children with severe deficiency and acute malnutrition and plantation drive for promotion of Kitchen gardens. Nodal Officer NARI (Nutri sensitive Agriculture) Dr.Sheetal Badyal KVK Jammu while interacting with the women said that this week is celebrated all over the country since 1983 to aware the people more specifically, the women about their health and well-being and to enhance their sensitivity vis-a-vis their food habits and the nutrition they take. All aspects of women health were discussed in the programme which included Integrated Nutritive Diets for the women of all the age groups.
Highly nutritive and low Calorie food items, Nutritive Diets during critical life stages and prevention of Iron deficiency anemia. Dr Badyal also focused on Role of fruits and vegetables in providing micro nutrients and boosting immunity system of the body in wake of prevailing pandemic situation Dr.Ravneet Kour Co- Nodal officer NARI, KVK Jammu stressed on availability of safe and nutritious diets through promotion of Homestead or organic kitchen gardens ensuring availability of round the year, seasonal, fresh, safe fruits and vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants for the family. The program was conceptualized under the guidance of the Sr. Scientist and Head KVK Jammu Dr.Punit Choudhary. The program culminated with distributing vegetable seeds of seasonal vegetables, other inputs and technical knowhow to the women to encourage them to raise Nutri Gardens.
