Kashmir , Dec 12 : Kashmir Valley tightened under another harsh cold spell on Thursday as minimum temperatures fell sharply across the region. Pulwama recorded the lowest temperature at -5.5°C, while Shopian followed at -5.0°C.
Srinagar dropped to -3.6°C, with the airport area dipping further to -4.0°C. Qazigund recorded -2.8°C and Kokernag -0.7°C.
Tourist spots also saw a deep chill. Pahalgam and Anantnag touched -4.6°C, Gulmarg stayed at 0.0°C, Kupwara recorded -3.6°C and Baramulla -4.7°C. Zethan Rafiabad registered -4.8°C, while Zojila Pass remained the coldest point at -18°C.
In south and central Kashmir, Budgam stood at -4.3°C, Pampore at -3.5°C, Awantipora at -4.2°C and Bandipora at -3.6°C. Sonamarg recorded -1.3°C, and Kulgam stayed relatively milder at -0.6°C.
The Jammu region also saw a dip, with Jammu city at 8.5°C and Katra at 9.4°C. Udhampur recorded 2.8°C, Bhaderwah 1.9°C, Rajouri 1.6°C, Ramban 4.2°C, Samba 3.2°C, and Kathua 7.6°C.
Ladakh continued to reel under freezing temperatures. Leh recorded -7.8°C, Kargil -7.0°C and Nubra Valley -6.3°C.
Forecasters said the cold wave is set to continue as no major weather system is expected soon. Light snowfall is likely over higher reaches, while the rest of the region will stay dry.
