Security forces arrested four Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) alongwith cash worth lakhs of rupees in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
A police spokesperson on Tuesday evening said that on Monday, police received reliable information that an active militant belonging to HM, Adil Ahmad Bhat, resident of Malangpora Pulwama, has handed over a huge amount to one OGW, Rouf-ul-Islam Wani, for distribution among other militants and OGWs for carrying out activities in the area.
“On receiving this information, a case was registered and investigation was taken up,” he said.
He said Wani was apprehended and during questioning disclosed that he had received huge cash from Bhat for distribution for raising the necessary support structure for HM.
“The accused disclosed that the cash amount was handed over to three OGWs, identified as Mohammed Maqbool Wani, Shakeel Ahmad Wani and Musaib Aziz Gojree,” he said.
He said all the three OGWs were apprehended and subsequently cash amounts were recovered at four different places.
He said the investigation conducted so far reveals that the amount recovered was intended to be used for the purpose of militancy. “Further investigation is in progress,” he said.
