In a big blow to Lashkar-e-Taiba in Kashmir, its top commander Naveed Jatt and another terrorist were gunned down by security forces on Wednesday during the Budgam encounter.
Jatt was involved in the assassination of journalist Shujaat Bukhari. Bukhari, the editor-in-chief of English daily ‘Rising Kashmir’, was gunned down on June 14 by three bike-borne terrorists when he was coming out of his office in Srinagar and boarding his car. Hailing from Pakistan, Jatt had escaped from police custody in Srinagar earlier this year from a Srinagar hospital.
An encounter started on Wednesday morning between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Kuthpora area of Budgam in the morning, following information about presence of terrorists. The authorities have snapped internet services in Budgam as a precautionary measure.
