J&K DGP chairs high level meeting of officers, reviews security situation

A high level joint meeting of Kashmir division officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and CAPFs was held at Police Headquarters. The Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh chaired the meeting in which overall security scenario of Kashmir was reviewed.

The meeting was attended by Special DG CID J&K R.R. Swain, IG BSF Kashmir Dr Rajesh Mishra, ADGP (Coordination) PHQ Danesh Rana, IG (Admin) CRPF Kashmir Deepak Rattan, IG (Ops) CRPF Kashmir Charu Sinha, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, Brig. 15 Corps P. K. Mishra, DIG CKR Amit Kumar, DIG SSB Ranjeet Singh, I/C DIG ITBP Suresh Yadav and SSP Srinagar Sandeep Choudhary. Range DIGs and district SSPs of Kashmir Zone attended the meeting via video conferencing.

While addressing the officers, the DGP stressed upon officers to review the security of their respective districts regularly. He said that terrorists and their masters across the border are attempting to create disturbances and added that forces have to be extra alert to foil their evil designs.

He emphasized that to combat terrorism more effectively a strategy for the strengthening of operational capabilities is needed for which joint operational drills of forces should be planned using latest electronic gadgets.

The DGP said that OGW networks which help in sustaining the terrorism and also involved in the recruitment of local youths need to be targeted. He said that with joint efforts various such networks were busted in the past and added that more intelligence sharing and coordination between forces would help in smashing more such networks.

Singh said that the law & order situation has improved in Jammu and Kashmir with the support of people though the forces have to be vigilant. He however advised the officers to take firm action against law & order situation instigators.

The officers attending the meeting shared their views and also briefed the DGP about the current security scenario.

COVID 19

63 new COVID-19 cases in J&K, one death in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Friday reported 63 new COVID-19 cases while one death was also reported in Kashmir division in the last 24 hours.

Of the fresh cases, 30 were reported in Kashmir and 33 in Jammu as per data thus taking the overall infection tally to 3,20,403 while the death toll has reached 4,374.

A total of 3,14, 620 have already recovered from the disease including the 166 recoveries in the last 24 hours alone.

Presently, there are a total of 1,409 active virus cases in J&K- 845 in Kashmir and 564 in Jammu.

Three dead in scooty-car collision

Three persons were killed on Friday after the two—wheeler they were riding was hit by a car at Panzinara area on Srinagar outskirts.

Report said that the trio travelling on a scooty was hit by the car bearing registration number JK05E—1226, resulting into their on spot death.

The deceased were identified as Sameer Ahmad Dar, son of Sonaullah Dar, Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Muhammad Malik and Shahid Fayaz, son of Fayaz Ahmad Dar—all residents of Panzinara.

An official said a police team from Parimpora Police Station has rushed to the spot.

Two LeT terrorists killed in Sopore encounter

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were eliminated in an encounter at Warpora village in Sopore, Baramulla on Friday.

Two terrorists have been killed in the encounter so far. Police have seized incriminating materials including arms and ammunition, the Kashmir Zone Police said.

“Both the terrorists who were killed in the encounter belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told ANI.
He said that one of them identified as Fayaz War was involved in several attacks and killings of civilians and security personnel.

He was the last perpetrator of violence in north Kashmir, added IGP Kashmir.
According to police, a top terrorist commander along with an associate was trapped in a house in Warpora village where the police and security forces were engaged in the encounter.

The operation was launched on Thursday evening on specific police input at Warpora in Sopore.
The search operation is underway, police said.
