A theft took place in Gandotra General Store, a shop on the main street of Gorkha Nagar. According to the owner, the thieves stole a cash amount of Rs. 5-6,000 and cigarette packets worth rupees 25-30,000.
“I closed my shop at 10 pm and went home. People living adjacent to the shop informed about the theft that happened at around 2 at night. It’s strange that Police Naka being 1 km away no one came to know about the theft. In fact, this road has people walking till midnight. It’s a huge loss as I’ve lost cash and stock of about 30,000.” said the owner
The Gorkha Nagar locals showed their anger on the incident and urged Police and Administration to be more alert.
“Thefts in Jammu have become routine now. No one’s shocked after hearing these incidents but it’s a loss to people who work hard for money. Stealing cigarettes indicates that the thieves must be into drugs. These drug addicted people are increasing in number day by day and that’s why are these robberies increasing. The Administration especially the Department who deals with drug peddler should be alert and stop such businesses in Jammu. Only then the conditions can improve.” said a local
“We were sleeping and didn’t hear any voices of the thieves. Police needs to be alert. CCTV cameras should be put up or watchmen should be made available in all areas. The way these thieves are doing their work, it seems they aren’t afraid of anyone. Our Administration and public is mature enough to understand these things. We aren’t responsible for improving these conditions. People who have been elected should come into action right now when a common man needs them.” added another
