Hosts Jammu Frontier bagged the overall championship trophy in the four-day Inter-Frontier Games held in four disciplines of Judo, Wushu, Gymnastics and Taekwondo at Hargobind Bhatnagar Stadium, BSF Campus, Paloura, yesterday.
Overall second place went to Gujarat while Punjab remained third. Jammu Frontier adjudged overall champion after the teams in Wushu, Taekwondo and Gymnastics secured highest points on the basis of medals won in different weight categories and events.
Earlier, the title trophy in Judo went to North Bengal while Punjab Frontier and Rajasthan remained second and third respectively. Similarly, in Wushu, Jammu Frontier earned highest points and South Bengal finished second. Third place was bagged by Tripura Frontier. In Gymnastics, again Jammu Frontier led the medals tally while Punjab and Gujarat were second and third respectively. In Taekwondo, Jammu bagged first place, Gujarat second and Punjab was at third place.
During the conduct of these competitions, talented players of various disciplines have been selected. These selected players will be put through intensive coaching at respective places of concentration under seasoned coaches.
In the colourful valedictory function of the mega event that involved around record 900 athletes, Speaker Legislative Assembly, Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh was Chief Guest, who gave away the title trophies and other individual prizes.
Speaking to the gathering, the Chief Guest said that the premier Force (BSF) has the proud honour of producing sterling sportsmen of National and International level. BSF sportsmen have brought laurels to the nation and have held India’s flag flying high.
The impressive and colourful closing ceremony witnessed spectacular march past by BSF personnel, exciting dog show, overwhelming choreography dance and music performance by BSF personnel and children.
