Today 32 students across India have been awarded, PM Rashtriya Bal Puruskar. Out of 32 students, one student of Jodhamal Public School named Harman Jot Singh age 13 years from Jammu also received the award. Harman has developed a woman safety app which till now 2,0000 people have downloaded.
JK Media talked with Harman and here is a glimpse of the interview-
Q – Tell us about your App?
Ans – My app is a woman safety app named Raksha. The app has emergency features so whenever a woman feels any kind of distress or they need help then by using the app they can contact their known ones. The app also shows the nearby police stations and with just one click in the app, the woman can contact any emergency helpline number. The app also has some precautionary measures for a woman’s safety.
Q – How and Why you developed this particular app?
Ans – During the lockdown period, I was having much free time which I utilized in learning coding with which I have developed the app. About the app, I have talked with my family and they only guided me to develop such an app and also suggested me to add such features.
Q – APJ Abdul Kalam is your idol. How he motivated you?
Ans – Abdul Kalam Sir spent his entire life on science and technology. Like him, I also wanted to devote my life to science and technology.
Q – Last year you also won a National Olympiad Award. Tell us about that also?
Ans – I got first international rank in the National cyber olympiad 2019-20. From 2nd class, I was appearing for the Olympiad and last year I finally achieved it.
Q – After the award, you also interacted with the Prime Minister of India. How did you feel?
Ans – I felt very proud after talks with our PM and I want to thank the Government Of India for giving me such an opportunity.
Q – Whom do you want to give credit for the award to?
Ans – I want to thank my teaching staff, principal, and my family members who have supported me in my interest in developing an app.
While talking to Jodhamal school’s principal Dr. Deep Khare said “every school should promote the interest of students. Like him, many students have shown their excellence in different fields. I and my teaching staff feel very proud as we haven’t expected that any student from our school would ever win a national award”.
Harman’s parents said, “We feel very proud that our son has done something for the women of the country. He has devoted his whole time to develop the app. His interest in science and technology is from his childhood days”
According to the Ministry of Women and Child Development awardees are from 32 districts of 21 states and Union territories. Seven awards have been given in the field of Art and Culture, nine awards for Innovation, and five for Scholastic Achievements. Seven children have won in the sports category, three have been felicitated for Bravery and one child has been honored for her efforts in the field of Social Service.
