J-K: Cleaning drive organised to preserve Dal Lake

A cleanliness drive has been organised in Srinagar’s Dal Lake to preserve the water bodies of the Kashmir valley.

A Travel Agents Federation of Kashmir (TAFOK) incorporation with the Tourism department has organised the drive that draws the attention of several people of the Vally.

During the drive, travel operators of the Travel Agents Federation of Kashmir (TAFOK), volunteers of local non-government organizations (NGO), and students voluntarily showed their interest in the cleaning drive.

Hilal Ahmad, the organiser, said, “We have been preparing for this drive for a month. Dal Lake is a heritage property as well. We were planning to conduct this drive for 2-3 days every month. It’s a social and moral responsibility of every citizen to participate in cleaning drives to preserve our nature.”

During this drive, participants use local boats and nets to collect the waste including plastic bottles, polythene, disposable items, and other wastes.

Mushtaq, a participant, said, “Dal Lake is a gift of God to us and it’s our responsibility to preserve it. The plastic wastes in the lake can disturb the ecosystem, their species, and hydrophytes. I am thankful to the director of the Tourism Department for making a contribution to this initiative.”

Two new airports to be established in J&K: Union Minister for Civil Aviation

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said that new two airports shall be established in Jammu and Kashmir soon.

He said this during an interaction programme with DDC, BDC members, PRIs and locals at Harwan block of Srinagar district.

As a major development, the Minister said that an airport worth Rs. 1500 crore shall be established on 25 thousand square kilometres in Kashmir, while as another airport worth Rs. 650 crore shall be established in Jammu on 22 thousand square kilometres land size.

He said that since a special focus is being given on development of both air and road connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, a major road network including highways, ring road, tunnels and other projects are being constructed across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

The Minister said that the development of connectivity shall bring more tourists to J&K and promote local craft. He said that the promotion of tourism and crafts shall boost economic activity and prosperity of people of J&K.

Scindia said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, an era of peace, progress and development has already started in Jammu and Kashmir and all the three regions including Ladakh have come on track to become number one in construction and development in the country.

He said that among other major projects, work was going on in full swing on ring road worth Rs 3000 crore, while as 100 percent households are being supplied electricity now, made possible by current dispensation.

The Minister said currently 82 percent population is connected and being supplied tap water, however, the government is committed to cover all households in near future.

He said that the Modi led government was not only successful in curbing corruption in J&K but sectors including health, education and others have also flourished in the UT during these years.

Present on the occasion, various DDC and BDC members, sarpanchs and other PRIs spoke on the occasion and raised their demands.

The demands raised by the members included bridging developmental gap between urban and rural areas, construction of degree college and AYUSH Hospital in Harwan, development of area for rural tourism, better health and education facilities, deduction in power and water tariffs, loan waivers for drivers among others.

Encounter breaks out between forces, terrorists in J-K’s Bandipora

An encounter broke between security forces and terrorists at Watnira area of Bandipora, said Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday.

“Encounter has started at Watnira area of Bandipora. Police and Security Forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

According to sources, security forces received input that two-three militants are present in a house in the area.
“Heavy exchange of fire is underway. Further details are awaited,” said sources.

In August, a Pakistani terrorist named Babar Ali was killed in the Chhandaji region of Bandipora by security forces.

Centre to make Rs 60,000 crore investment in J&K in next 2-3 years: Union MoS Rajeev Chandrashekhar

The Jammu and Kashmir government Saturday said the Centre has “formulated a plan to spend Rs 60,000 crores in the union territory alone in next 2 to 3 years” through which the UT “will see new circle of development prosperity”.

A government handout said the amount “will be utilized to create employment generating avenues, inspire youth to establish micro income generating units and boost local economy”.

These remarks were made by Union Minister of State for Skill Development Entrepreneurship and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrashekhar while addressing a gathering of ITI and polytechnic students in a convention cum seminar organized in his honor at ITI Complex Wadipora Budgam.

“I have observed and personally witnessed that the local youth of Kashmir are full of talent and skill. They need to be inspired, show interest in getting highly skilled training, be energetic as there are enormous opportunities of employment generation available,” the Minister said.

Chandrashekhar claimed, “about 8 lakh new jobs were created since 1st April 2020 to 30th April 2021 in IT and manufacturing sectors”.

” It is our mission, goal and solemn promise to strengthen the entrepreneurship diversification as it has a great economic prospects to absorb youth in various fields, ” he added.

The Minister appealed aspiring youth to “be committed, positive in approach and remain enthusiastic to realize and fulfill every dream”.

Principal Secretary Skill Development Department Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, DC Budgam Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza, Director Skill Development Department, SSP Budgam, Principal ITI Budgam and other District Officers were present on the occasion.

The Minister said “ministers visiting UT of J&K have an objective to check the situation relating to developmental and other aspects on ground”.

“This is PM’s initiative and revolutionary first of its kind mission particularly for UT of J&K,” the Minister added.

Chandrasekhar further asserted, “We came here with professional objective and ambition to deliver, our visits shall emerge result oriented.”

The minister lauded concerned J&K authorities for the “enormous work done in skill development” even as he said more boost and push was needed in the sector.

“Budgam has potential and talent which they have showcased through incredible skills,” he added.

The Minister inspected automobile training centre of ITI Budgam besides the stalls installed by the skilled youth demonstrating and displaying manufacturing skills, talent and professionalism in respective art and trades.

Later, the Minister presided a meeting of officers convened at Conference Hall Budgam where a detailed review of each sector was under taken scheme wise. The DC Budgam through a detailed power point presentation presented developmental and welfare scenario of the District.

The Minister while going through the details appreciated the District Administration and its officials in achieving the given targets, despite facing inconveniences due to COVID 19 crisis and other circumstances. He impressed up on the District Administration to continue its engagements with same spirit, conviction and dedication.

He appreciated the “extreme professionalism shown by District Administration officials in implementation of centrally and state sponsored schemes under the able leadership of DC Budgam”.

District Budgam shall be pilot district for introduction of new skill development courses, the Minister announced.

He claimed the courses “will take district to next level of achievement”.

During the meeting various deputations from across the district including political representatives, PRI’s, school students, common citizens apprised the Minister about their issues and grievances verbally as well as by submitting memorandums.

As per the government handout, the minister patiently listened to all individuals /deputations and assured them of early redressal of all genuine issues. On the occasion the Minister also launched mobile application Aurzov (Healthcare mobile app.), Meri Awaaz (water bodies conservation), Covid Care service Budgam and e-Services Portal.
