World’s Largest Khadi National flag

The Union Territory of Ladakh made Gandhi Jayanti memorable today. On this auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a giant Indian National Flag was unfurled in Leh, the capital of Ladakh. The unique feature of this flag is that it is the enormous Khadi national flag globally. The flag, made entirely of Khadi, measures 225×150 feet. Not only this, its weight is close to a ton, whereas it took about 1.5 months to make it.

Lt Governor of Ladakh Manoj Mukund Naravane inaugurated the national flag. Chief of Army Staff MM Naravane was also present on occasion. As the national flag was unfurled in Leh, Bharat Mata chants reverberated at the venue. Army personnel salute the national flag along with Lieutenant Governor, Chief of Army Staff. The Indian Air Force, which was foiling every nefarious plot of the enemies on the Indo-China border in Ladakh, also saluted the national flag from its helicopters. It was a sight to behold.

At the same time, DN Bhatt of Khadi Dyers and Printers, Mumbai, who made the national flag of Khadi, said that they had to hire additional artists to make this flag. It was also challenging to make, and after it was made, it was also cumbersome. So we prepared the flag in due time and handed it over to the army.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also urged people to buy Khadi products during his Mann Ki Baat program based on Gandhi Jayanti. “Let’s buy Khadi products and celebrate Bapu’s birth anniversary with great enthusiasm,” he said. He said, “Today in the 75th year of independence, we can say with satisfaction that the respect and pride which was given to Khadi in the freedom movement, the same respect and pride is being given to Khadi by our younger generation today.”
