ISRO conducting on-line courses amid lockdown: Dr Jitendra

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been conducting on-line courses amid lockdown and the latest of these courses which has just concluded was on “Satellite Photogrammetry and its Applications”, carried out by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), under the aegis of ISRO, for students and working professionals.
This was revealed here today by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances,Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh while briefing about the activities of ISRO and Department of Space during the pandemic phase.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the course received an overwhelming response, particularly from students, and a total of 23,802 participants from 1,188 institutions from across the country had registered for this programme. On the conclusion of course, an on-line examination was conducted and the certification process is in progress, he added.
The prime aim of the course, said Dr Jitendra Singh, was to create awareness about the use of satellite images for extraction of terrain elevation, precise geometrical correction of satellite images for analysis and applications for natural resource management and disasters.
In addition to the above course, Dr Jitendra Singh said, IIRS-ISRO has also conducted several other on-line courses during the lockdown period, for the benefit of different target user groups across the country. Some of these courses conducted in the last three months were on Basic Principles of Remote Sensing Technology, Webinar Series on Crop Monitoring and Assessment, Planetary Geosciences, Remote Sensing & GIS Technology & Applications for University teachers and government officials, Health GIS and Basic Principles of Remote Sensing Technology.
Meanwhile, the preparation for India’s first-ever Human Space mission “Gaganayaan” is going on and the training of astronauts, which had to be discontinued because of the pandemic, has been resumed.
The other ongoing activities of ISRO, said Dr Jitendra Singh, include year-long centenary celebrations of Sarabhai, which will conclude next month in August.
