With Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni at the fag end of his Indian Premier League (IPL) career, the franchise could look for someone as the future captain of the franchise. Despite CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan having confirmed that Dhoni would lead the side in 2022 as well, former India cricketer Pragyan Ojha feels the side could look at Kane Williamson – who is not being utilised at SRH – as his successor. Ojha also suggested that Ravindra Jadeja could be the vice-captain despite his name being floated in the circles as Dhoni’s successor.
“He (Ravindra Jadeja) can be a vice-captain where if you need some help then can be your guy. But if you’re talking about captaincy, then if there’s one guy who can do it, it’s Kane Williamson. He isn’t being utilized much there (at SRH). Mega-auction is next year, if MS Dhoni is playing then this question shouldn’t arise in the first place. However, if he doesn’t play then you can bring in Kane Williamson as a captain,” said Ojha, who is also IPL governing council member, in conversation with Cricbuzz website.
On Wednesday (April 28) against CSK, Williamson smashed a sizzling 26 not out off 10 balls to give SRH the finishing kick. All SRH could post was 171/3 in their stipulated 20 overs. That did not prove to be good enough as CSK beat SRH by seven wickets to go top of the points table again. The Dhoni-led side is having a season to remember. They have already won five out of six after losing their season opener against Delhi Capitals.
“Last 8-10 years we’ve not changed lot of players so they know our approach. Also we appreciate the players not playing a lot. Only way you can put it forward is having those nice interactions. Just try to have the frame of mind where if you get the opportunity you’ll be ready,” Dhoni said at the presentation after the win.
THIS young batsman can replace Virat Kohli as captain
THIS young batsman can replace Virat Kohli as captain, feels former India selector Kiran More
Former India chief selector Kiran More believes Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant can lead the Team India in the future. More feels Pant has the skills to take Indian cricket forward as he has the right mindset. Pant has the experience of leading Delhi in the domestic circuit and he was also given the captaincy mantle by Delhi Capitals for IPL 2021 as Shreyas Iyer was ruled out with a shoulder injury.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has taken giant strides in the last six months. The left-hander scored 274 runs in the three-Test matches against Australia, including a match-winning knock of 89 runs in the historic Gabba Test match. Subsequently, the southpaw scored a total of 270 runs in the four-Test matches against England in the home conditions.
“Rishabh Pant has the potential to take the Indian team forward. He can lead the side in future. The kind of mindset he has, he can definitely become the captain of India,” former India wicketkeeper told India TV. “Rishabh Pant has a sharp mind, he can achieve a lot of things. But it is also up to the individual, how disciplined you are, how do you see the future,” More added.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has had a roller coaster journey so far in his young international career. More believes the bad phase which Pant faced early in his career has made him mentally stronger for the challenges.
“If you see Rishabh Pant’s graph it has been full of ups and downs. The bad phase has made him mentally strong. He was not picked for the World Cup at first, was dropped from T20Is and ODIs as well. But the way he made a comeback through Test cricket is what makes you a real cricketer. Making a comeback after you get dropped is always the hardest but Pant has shown that he belongs at that level. He will take Indian cricket forward,” More added.
More also shed light on Pant’s comparison with former skipper MS Dhoni. The former Indian wicketkeeper feels Pant is still young in his International career and needs to be given time.
“Rishabh has come into the Indian team at a very young age. He is still very young. So you have to give time to a player (to mature). Yes, he will make mistakes here and there, that is natural. When Mahi came, he was a lot matured. He was not as young as Pant when he came into the Indian team. Pant, on the other hand, has come up through the U19 ranks and is a rare talent. He needs to be nurtured well,” he said.
Delhi court issues non-bailable warrant against two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar
Non-bailable warrant have been issued against two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar in a young wrestler’s murder case by Delhi’s Rohini Court on Saturday.
Wrestler Sagar Rana died on May 5 after sustaining serious injuries in an alleged assault by Sushil Kumar and some other wrestlers at the Chhatrasal stadium on May 4.
Sushil has been on the loose ever since the incident and an FIR was filed by Delhi Police on charges of murder, abduction and criminal conspiracy.
Earlier on Monday, police also issued a ‘Look-out Circular’ against the 37-year-old wrestler but couldn’t trace Sushil despite raiding his house.
It was later reported that Sushil has been spotted in Haridwar and Rishikesh in his attempt to escape an arrest while the efforts are on to nab him in the Delhi-NCR region and neighbouring states.
As per police, victims in the case has accused that Sushil and his accomplishes abducted Sagar from his house in Model Town to settle a score with him after the 23-year-old wrestler bad-mouthed the Olympic gold medallist in front of other wrestlers at the stadium.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni shows he is a captain off the field as well.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former captain of the Indian Cricket team and currently captaining the IPL team Chennai Super Kings once again proved why he’s the kindest of all.
As the Indian Premiere League 2021 got postponed due to some players testing positive, all the players of the League are currently being sent to their respective homes. The International players of all teams are travelling through Chartered flights for safe travel.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni proves why he’s the greatest.
According to sources, MS Dhoni told the management that the foreign players and support staff should be given the first preference to leave for their houses.
Dhoni in fact told that he would be last person to leave the Hotel in Delhi (where the team was staying) to ensure everyone leaves safely.
“Mahi bhai said that he will be the last person to leave the hotel. He wanted foreigners to leave first, then the Indian players. He will be taking the last flight tomorrow when everyone reaches their home safe and secure,” a member of CSK was quoted
Mahendra Singh Dhoni once again proved why he deserves to be the Captain of his team – because he leads the team like a CAPTAIN.
Meanwhile, Indian Captain Virat Kohli travelled to Mumbai today. The english men including Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Sam Billings, Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, and Jason Roy landed in London to begin a 10-day quarantine before heading to their respective homes while Eoin Morgan, Dawid Malan and Chris Jordan are expected to board flights in the next 24 hours.
