The army Sunday said that a BAT attempt was foiled yesterday at Keran sector where an “intruder” who was trying to sneak into this side was killed.
Addressing a press conference at northern district of Kupwara, General officer Commanding of Division Major General Abhijit Pendharkar said that yesterday at 3 pm, a “complete breach of ceasefire agreement” was noticed when an infiltrator wearing a “phatan suit” and a black jacket was trying to enter into this side.
“He was challenged and subsequently killed. This was a BAT action. In the swift action, the infiltrator was killed,” the army officer said.
He said the slain has been identified as Muhammad Shabir Malik, a Pakistani national. “An Ak-47 rifle and seven magazines were recovered from him,” Major General Abhijit said. He said that vaccination certificates and an identity card were recovered from the slain militant. “A document showing the slain in army uniform was also found in the pocket of the slain,” the army officer said.
He said that the infiltration route choosen by the slain was the same as the one used by five armed militants last year in April, who were killed in the Keran sector. He said that a communication has been made to the Pakistani army on hot-line to take back the body of the infiltrator. The army officer said that there are continuous inputs about possible infiltration bids by militants in Keran and Kupwara sectors ahead of the snowfall in the areas but army was alert and maintaining vigil to thwart all such plans
Cop escapes unhurt in militant attack
A policeman escaped unhurt in a militant attack in the Batmaloo area of Srinagar on Friday, reports said.
Sources reported that militants fired upon a police constable at about 3:15 pm in the SD Colony area.
However, the policeman escaped unhurt. Soon after the attack, the officer said that the entire area was cordoned off and searches launched.
He said that a case has been registered and further investigations have been launched.
Two brothers drown while extracting sand in Jhelum
Two brothers drowned while extracting stand in Jhelum river in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, reports said.
They said that brothers – Nissar Ahmad Malla and Hilal Ahmad Malla – drowned early today morning in the river while extracting sand near Jetty at Khwaja Bagh.
The family of the duo has been called and efforts are on to retrieve their bodies, said an official.
The brothers hailed from Littarpira village of Bandipora district, he added.
J&K: Massive CASO launched in two villages
Joint Forces launched a massive Cordon And Search Operation(CASO) in two villages of the Kulgam district in south Kashmir.
An official said that the operation on Friday was launched jointly by forces including RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police, and CRPF following inputs about the movement of militants in the Kakran Pombay and Katrasoo areas of Kulgam.
He said that the operation was launched following inputs about the presence of militants in these areas.
The search operations in both areas were going on when this report was being filed.
