India has dropped one rank for both mobile internet speed and fixed broadband speed on Ookla’s Speedtest
Global Index in December. The country ranked 129th in mobile internet speed out of 139 countries and dropped to 65th rank in the fixed broadband speed.
According to Ookla Speedtest Global Index, Qatar has emerged to be the Country with fastest download internet speed of 178.01 Mbps followed by UAE who had a speed of 177.52 Mbps. The list was followed by South Korea at third rank with an average mobile download speed of 169.03 Mbps. China and Australia have continued remain at fourth and fifth ranks.
In case of broadband speed, India had an average download speed of 53.90 Mbps and registered an average upload speed of 50.75 Mbps. Thailand jumped two spots and emerged as the leading country with an average download speed of 308.35 Mbps and 260.86 Mbps of upload speed. Singapore and Hong Kong emerged as second and third countries by stepping down one spot each while Romania and Switzerland came at fourth and fifth position.
Average mobile download speed in India has declined over 4.4 percent to 12.91Mbps from 13.51Mbps in November, according to the December 2020 data available on the Speedtest Global Test. However, average mobile upload speed in the country has increased over 1.4 percent to 4.97Mbps from 4.90Mbps. Latency rate in the country hit 51 milliseconds.
