Mumbai, Jan 9: Police in Maharashtra’s Beed district have registered a case against four individuals for allegedly collecting more than Rs 4 crore by falsely claiming the money would be used to support Palestine amid the ongoing conflict with Israel, officials said.

The funds were reportedly raised after the Israel-Hamas conflict began on October 7, 2023. Since then, over 71,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed and more than 1.7 lakh injured. Despite a ceasefire announced in October 2025, over 400 deaths have been reported since.

According to officials, local police and the anti-terrorism unit received specific inputs regarding suspected terror funding. Following this, a search operation was conducted in Patrud village of Majalgaon, during which it was found that the accused had collected over Rs 4 crore under the pretext of humanitarian support.

Police said the money was deposited into the bank account of a trust that was not registered with the Charity Commissioner, making the collection illegal. Majalgaon Rural Police have registered a case of cheating and fraud against all four accused, and two of them have been taken into custody.

Authorities are now probing whether the accused have any links to banned organisations and whether the funds collected were intended for terror-related activities.
