Vehicular movement on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway has been completely suspended after a flash flood and mudslide struck near the T2 Canopy in Ramban’s Magerkote area, officials confirmed on Wednesday. The sudden downpour triggered massive debris flow, rendering the crucial highway stretch unsafe for traffic.
Authorities from Ramban district, along with highway maintenance teams, have launched immediate restoration efforts. However, continuous rainfall and the unstable terrain are hampering progress.
Officials have urged commuters to avoid the route and follow official advisories strictly. Alternative routes are being assessed, but traffic will only resume after a full safety review and clearance from the concerned departments.
This incident highlights the recurring challenges faced during the monsoon season along the national highway, a lifeline connecting Kashmir to the rest of India.
