Srinagar, Dec 17: Two separate fire incidents in Srinagar and south Kashmir’s Pulwama district during the early hours of Wednesday caused significant damage to property, officials said.
In Srinagar, a fire broke out at Padshahi Bagh before dawn, engulfing several scrap dealer shops and reducing them to ashes. Fire and Emergency Services teams rushed to the spot and pressed multiple fire tenders into service. The flames spread rapidly due to the presence of highly inflammable scrap material, but firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after sustained efforts, preventing it from spreading to nearby commercial and residential structures.
In another incident, a residential house was badly damaged in a predawn fire at Pustana village in the Tral area of Pulwama district. The fire caused panic among locals as it spread quickly through the house. Firefighters responded promptly and managed to douse the flames after a prolonged operation. While the house suffered extensive damage and was rendered uninhabitable, timely action prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining homes in the densely populated area.
Police have taken cognisance of both incidents, and investigations are underway to determine the causes of the fires.
