Extortionists gang busted, three arrested

Pampore Police busted extortionists’ gang with the arrest of three members.

As per police spokesman, a case FIR Number 105/2021 under relevant Sections was registered at Police Station Pampore against a gang of extortionists who were extorting money from gullible people in Pampore area.

“The gang members used to stop their car at various bus stops in Pampore and offered free lift especially to elderly people. After driving some distance, the gang used to stop the vehicle at some abandoned place and extorted money and other valuable items from the victims. The victims were later dropped from the vehicle at the place of extortion. The gang also pretended to be dervishes and entered homes of innocent people and later looted them taking advantage of their trust. This way the gang was active in the area and had extorted money from a number of elderly people”, the spokesman added.
The spokesman informed that a police team led by SDPO Pampore after gathering tangible evidence arrested three accused. The vehicle bearing registration number JK04B 5996 used for the commission of offence has also been seized.

“The accused have been identified as Akther Hussain Shah, son of Abdul Rashid Shah, Firdous Ahmed Shah, son of Abdul Rashid Shah and Mohammad Rustum Shah, son of Nazir Ahmad Shah, trio residents of Nadihal, District Baramulla”, the spokesman said, adding that extorted money worth Rs 1,15,000 has also been recovered from the possession of the accused which shall be released in favour of the victims.

Smarth Arora from Jammu wins Mr India 2021

A production company, namely “Dreamz Production House” house, recently organised a fashion show under the banner of “Mr Super Model International 2021” in Lucknow. Several participants participated in the competition, but Smarth Arora from Jammu emerged as the show’s winner.

While sharing his experience with JK Media, Smarth said, “this was a 5-day competition, and it was full of ups and downs. There were several judges, and they not only judged us but also polished our skills. The company first conducted auditions in Jammu, and the semi-final and final was in Jammu, where I emerged as the winner”.

“Fitness was my passion, and from 9th standard, I was going to the gym. So when Dreamz production gave me an opportunity for modelling, I took the chance and won this trophy. However, for my parents, their priority is their studies. So even I have won this trophy for them, I should focus on my studies”, Smarth added.

Choreographer Deepak Kumar’s Death Shakes Jammu

Deepak Kumar, a renowned choreography from Jammu who presented the UT on international platforms succumbed to death on Friday in Jammu.

According to his family members, Deepak was on his way to a Temple near Jammu when he stopped by a spot near a water body. He and his friends went inside it, however unable to handle the pressure of water, he drowned.

“Deepak left the house at 6 in the morning. He met his friends on the way. Unfortunately, he left us today. He made his presence in the Dance Industry quite prominent. He trained students in Schools and Academies. It’s a huge loss for us.” said Deepak’s colleague

“Deepak only had his sisters in the family. His parents died too early to witness his success. He’ll always be remembered as one of the greatest dancers of Jammu. His kind and helpful nature made him more special for the society.” added another

3-day Black-day in the Memory of Martyr Students Begins in Science College

To pay tribute to the movement’s martyrs on the issue of establishment of University, Medical College, Agricultural University for Jammu, a three-day black day was observed in degree colleges of Jammu division from Saturday.

In the 1966 agitation in Jammu, four students were martyred by police firing. In the memory of the martyred students, a memorial site has been built outside the Science College, Jammu, near the gate. Black Day is celebrated every year for three days, from 16 October to 18 October, in degree colleges of the Jammu division. Classes are not held for three days, and at the martyr’s site, representatives of student organizations, students, staff members of colleges pay homage.

This time the college has been closed for more than one and a half years due to the situation arising out of Corona. In such a situation, only online classes are being held. That’s why fewer students are reaching the martyrdom site to pay their respects. Today, as soon as the Black Day started, the staff members of the Science College went to the martyr’s place and paid homage to the martyrs.

Members of the Jammu Joint Students Federation have started a fast at the martyr’s site. Federation members have been on hunger strike for the past several years. On the third day, the Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University ends the fast by drinking juice to the members. Jammu University was established in the year 1969 due to the students’ movement. After that, a medical college was established in Jammu. Later Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Jammu, was established.

Staff members of other colleges of Jammu city, Maulana Azad Memorial College, Commerce College, Mahila College Gandhi Nagar, Women’s College Parade, Science College also visited the martyr’s site and paid homage to the martyr students. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, National Secular Forum, NSUI, will also pay tribute to the martyrs on Sunday.
