Explosive material, ammunition found in J-K’s Awantipora

A huge cache of explosive material and ammunition has been recovered by security forces from Awantipora in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Friday.

Based on a credible input, a joint team of Awantipora Police, Army and the Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) launched a search in the Nawdal Tral area and recovered seven 51MM Motor Bombs, 260 PIKA rounds and other ammunition.

According to the police, the explosive material and ammunition was kept hidden underground by the terrorists.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at the Tral police station.

Three dead in scooty-car collision

Three persons were killed on Friday after the two—wheeler they were riding was hit by a car at Panzinara area on Srinagar outskirts.

Report said that the trio travelling on a scooty was hit by the car bearing registration number JK05E—1226, resulting into their on spot death.

The deceased were identified as Sameer Ahmad Dar, son of Sonaullah Dar, Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Muhammad Malik and Shahid Fayaz, son of Fayaz Ahmad Dar—all residents of Panzinara.

An official said a police team from Parimpora Police Station has rushed to the spot.

Two LeT terrorists killed in Sopore encounter

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were eliminated in an encounter at Warpora village in Sopore, Baramulla on Friday.

Two terrorists have been killed in the encounter so far. Police have seized incriminating materials including arms and ammunition, the Kashmir Zone Police said.

“Both the terrorists who were killed in the encounter belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told ANI.
He said that one of them identified as Fayaz War was involved in several attacks and killings of civilians and security personnel.

He was the last perpetrator of violence in north Kashmir, added IGP Kashmir.
According to police, a top terrorist commander along with an associate was trapped in a house in Warpora village where the police and security forces were engaged in the encounter.

The operation was launched on Thursday evening on specific police input at Warpora in Sopore.
The search operation is underway, police said.

One more death, 84 new COVID-19 cases in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 84 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the infection tally to 3,20,340, while one more fatality took the death toll to 4,373, officials said.

Of the new cases, 20 were from the Jammu division and 64 from the Kashmir division, they said.

Srinagar with 31 new cases was the only district in the Union Territory to record cases in double digits, while three districts reported no new infections, officials said.

The number of active cases stands at 1,513, while 3,14,454 people have recovered from the infection so far, they said.

The death toll rose to 4,373 after one more death was reported in the past 24 hours, officials said.

Meanwhile, officials said, there were 35 confirmed cases of Mucormycosis (black fungus) in the Union Territory as no fresh case was reported since last evening.
