The alert Excise sleuths at Toll Post Lakhanpur today foiled an attempt of smuggling polythene into the State and seized 13,000 kgs of banned polythene bags at Toll Post Lakhanpur near here.
On regular checking, the truck bearing registration number PB06E8311 when measured on weighbridge was found to contain fluctuations in declared weight. Upon checking, 13,000 banned polythene bags were found from the truck. The goods were consigned to M/s Emm Vee Enterprises, Nehru Market, Ware House, Jammu.
The operation was supervised by Deputy Excise Commissioner, Ashish Gupt and carried out by Excise & Taxation Officers, Sandeep Gupta & Aamir Ayaiz Rather, Inspector Shehzad Ahmad, Gagandeep Singh, Sub-Inspector Manzoor Ahmad.
As per the documents, that the vehicle was declared to be carrying Suji (Semolina flour) and Maida (all purpose flour). However, on checking by Excise Guards the vehicle was found loaded with polythene concealed inside the flour.
Ashish Gupta informed that the vehicle along with seized polythene was handed over to the Pollution Control Board, Regional Office, Lakhanpu, J&K for further action under rules
