Srinagar, Jan 16: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against two residents of Karnataka for allegedly cheating a complainant of Rs 13 lakh by promising an MBBS seat for his son.

The accused, identified as Aquib Javeed and his brother Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad, both from Ring Road, Adarsh Nagar, Gulbarga, are alleged to have conspired in the fraud.

According to officials, the case began when the complainant was approached by Dr. Shamsu-Din, affiliated with Al-Amin Medical College in Bijapur, Karnataka, who assured him that Aquib Javeed could secure an MBBS admission for his son. Based on this assurance, the complainant paid Rs 13 lakh.

However, the student was not admitted to any college, nor was the money refunded. Investigations revealed that the brothers had promised admission in KBN Medical College, Bijapur, but failed to deliver, constituting criminal conspiracy and cheating.

The chargesheet has been filed under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code before the Sub-Judge Court in Baramulla. Proceedings were initiated in absentia under Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
