Calls for fair hearing before action; meets NC workers in Handwara
Handwara, Oct 30: National Conference (NC) Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that the termination of government employees should be carried out only through proper judicial channels, ensuring every individual gets a fair chance to defend themselves.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to Handwara, Omar emphasized that dismissing employees without due process undermines justice and accountability.
“Termination should happen only through the court. Everyone must be given an opportunity to explain their position. If found guilty, strict action should follow — but innocent employees should not suffer without proof,” Omar said.
The former Chief Minister was in Handwara to meet party workers and to congratulate senior NC leader Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan on his recent election to the Rajya Sabha.
“I have come here to congratulate the people of Handwara, north Kashmir, and my senior colleague Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan for his success in the Rajya Sabha elections,” he said, expressing confidence that the new members will represent Jammu and Kashmir’s interests effectively in Parliament.
“We have sent three capable representatives to the Rajya Sabha. I am hopeful that Jammu and Kashmir’s voice will now be heard in the highest forum of the country, where it has been missing since 2022,” Omar added.
When asked about allegations by the Leader of Opposition that his announcement of establishing a Law University in Budgam violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), Omar dismissed the charge, saying,
“Let the Leader of Opposition take action against me if he believes there has been a violation.”
Omar’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over recent government terminations in Jammu and Kashmir, where several employees have been dismissed for alleged involvement in subversive activities without departmental inquiry or court intervention.
