Jammu, Jan 19 : National Conference chief and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah spoke on several pressing issues during a recent statement.
On Jammu and Kashmir’s Statehood:
Dr. Abdullah said that the region will regain its statehood at the appropriate time, urging patience from the people.
On the Return of Kashmiri Pandits:
He stated that nothing prevents Kashmiri Pandits from returning to the Valley, noting that many never left. “Their homes are there, and they should return,” he said. He recalled that his government had plans to construct housing for Pandits, but these could not be completed after his government left power, leaving the responsibility now to the current administration.
On Communal Tensions and the A.R. Rahman Issue:
Dr. Abdullah expressed concern over rising communalism, alleging that attempts are being made to divide Hindus and Muslims for electoral gains. He highlighted that India has always been home to people of all religions. Speaking on local developments, he noted that the Shrine Board’s MBBS college and hospital had received approval for a medical college, but it was later shut down. He also questioned calls for a separate Jammu state, pointing out divisions within Jammu and Kashmir itself.
On Pakistan:
He said Pakistan would never cease its interference in the region. Recalling history, he stated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir chose to remain with India in 1947. “Today temples are being built for Gandhi’s assassins,” he remarked, underscoring ongoing regional tensions.
On the Mumbai Elections:
Commenting on the recent civic polls, Dr. Abdullah said election results involve both wins and losses, questioning why so much attention is being given to them.
