Div Com takes stock of passenger facilities at Jammu Railway Station; discusses redevelopment plan



On Sunday, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langer, visited Jammu Railway Station and took a first-hand appraisal of passengers facilities and an overview of the station re-development plan.

Divisional Traffic Manager (DTM), Mahesh Yadav, gave an overview and apprised the Div Com regarding the upcoming station re-development project of the Jammu railway station. It was informed that The Railways Ministry had identified Jammu Railway Station for re-development on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The facilities proposed under the re-development plan include congestion-free non-conflicting entry/exit to the station premises, segregation of arrival/departure of passengers, adequate concourse without overcrowding, integration with other modes of transport systems—bus and metro etc., user-friendly international signage, well illuminated circulating area and sufficient provision for drop off, pick up and parking etc.

The meeting also discussed the upcoming metro project alignment. The Railway authorities requested for developing the metro station nearby the existing railway station for easy access to the passengers.

The Additional Divisional Railway Manager Jammu briefed the Div Com regarding cancellation/short termination of inbound & outbound trains due to Punjab’s farmers’ protest. The Railway authorities apprised the Div Com that local trains as per need are being run by the Northern Railways between Katra -Amritsar section for the benefit of the passengers.

Dr Langer also reviewed security arrangements at the station, and the SSP Railways Arif Reshu briefed him regarding security aspects and other measures in place at the Railway Station.

The Station Director lauded the role of Police authorities and extended cooperation to them.

Additional DRM Jammu apprised the Div Com that in the long run cargo terminal is planned to be shifted to Bari Brahmana station and the oil terminal to Bajalta. This will make the passenger move hassle-free at the Jammu Railway Station in times to come.

The Div Com directed ADC Jammu to ensure that information regarding cancellation/short termination of trains is disseminated through the Information Department. At the same time, the public should be made aware to check the status of their trains through NTES (National Train Enquiry System). In addition, railway authorities were told to share daily schedules with the information department for circulation in the media for public information.

Meanwhile, the Div Com also interacted with the staff present at testing counters. The doctors on duty apprised the Divisional Commissioner about the arrangements being put in place by the district administration and the health department at the railway station to prevent and control Covid-19. It was informed that a total of 70 staff, including doctors and paramedics, had been deputed for testing at Railway station.

“Around 1000 to 1100 RAT sampling and 150 to 250 RT PCR is done on an average, while there is a meagre Positivity Rate”, the health officials informed. It was informed that presently the influx of travellers is low. It was further informed that medical teams are available 24×7, and all the passengers are sampled at the platforms.

The Div Com was accompanied by Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Station Director Railways, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, SSP Railways, SDM Jammu South, CMO Jammu, Nodal Officer Railway, Tehsildar Bahu, besides other concerned officers.


73rd Republic Day Celebrations Held Across Jammu




On Wednesday, on the 73rd Republic Day of the country, the tricolour flag was proudly hoisted at every square and square of the city. Amid patriotic songs and music in all the squares and streets of the town, people hoisted the tricolour flag paid tribute to the country’s martyrs and saluted the brave soldiers deployed in defence of the borders. On this national festival of Republic Day, after flag hoisting by business organizations in many city areas, Prasad was also distributed among the people by putting up stalls of halwa-puri.

Jammu Mayor Chandramohan Gupta hoisted the tricolour and regional traders at the historic Raghunath Mandir Chowk. Apart from this, the Mayor hoisted the tricolour flag at Shaheed Major Akash Singh Park in his residence area, celebrating Republic Day with people in more than a dozen city areas.

The main program was organized on behalf of the State Bharatiya Janata Party at the party headquarters at Trikuta Nagar, where the state president Ravindra Raina unfurled the tricolour flag along with former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta and other leaders. Next, former Minister Sat Sharma and other leaders hoisted the tricolour flag in the BJP’s Kachi Cantonment office. Then, in the Chamber House located at Railhead Complex, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu, President Arun Gupta, and other office bearers and main businessmen unfurled the tricolour flag.

In Jammu’s biggest wholesale grain market Ware House-Nehru Market, the Federation’s head Deepak Gupta and market traders hoisted the tricolour flag. Apart from this, regional corporators in all 75 wards of Jammu Municipal Corporation shared the happiness of Republic Day by hoisting the tricolour flag along with the people of their respective wards.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha hoists National Flag at Republic Day function




Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha hoisted the National Flag at the Union Territory level function on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day, here at Maulana Azad Stadium this morning.
The Lt Governor inspected the parade and took the ceremonial salute.
The Republic Day parade consisted of smart contingents from Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB, IRP (Women & Male), J&K Police, JKAP, UT Disaster Response Force, J&K Fire, and Emergency Services, J&K Forest Protection Force, Excise Department, Ex-Servicemen, NCC Boys and Girls, Bharat Scouts and Guides (Girls & Boys), besides several school contingents, Brass & Pipe Bands of Army, BSF, J&K Police, J&K Armed Police.
The colourful celebrations of Republic Day filled with patriotic fervour and the celebratory mood were aptly reflected by a host of impressive cultural items presented by various schools and departments on the occasion.
The J&K Police displayed the breathtaking Motorcycle Acrobatics, besides cultural pageantry based on the different themes activities were the main attractions of the programme. Scores of students from various schools presenting a cultural spectacle based on national integration and the glorious composite heritage of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir marked the day.
Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor laid a wreath at Police Martyrs Memorial & Balidan Stambh and paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of our country.
“Valor of the Jawans and officers of JKP, Army and other Central Security Forces and their unparalleled courage is an inspiration for all. The nation will always remain indebted to their sacrifices. We all must take a pledge to eradicate terrorism and terror ecosystem perpetuated by the neighbouring country”, said the Lt Governor.
Among those who witnessed the Republic Day celebrations were Chief Justice Jammu and Kashmir High Court; Advisor to the Lt Governor; Judges of the J&K High Court; Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation; Member of Parliament; Chief Secretary; DGP; elected representatives of ULBs and PRIs; former Legislators; senior Civil, Police and Army officers; political and social activists; prominent citizens, media persons and the citizenry.

Rapper cop of Jammu and Kashmir awarded by DGP




Jammu and Kashmir Police constable Jeevan Kumar whose rap performance on a television reality show has gone viral and won him praise was awarded by Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Tuesday night.

The police chief gave a commendation certificate and a reward of Rs 10,000 to the constable.

The police chief congratulated Kumar and his family for his excellent performance and for making the force proud.

Jeevan’s rap song was a tribute to the security forces.

Police officials said rapping is a hobby of the 25-year-old constable hailing from the border belt of Bishnah in Jammu.
