Srinagar, Nov 25: In a landmark step toward linguistic inclusion, President Droupadi Murmu will unveil the digital editions of the Constitution of India in nine regional languages— including Kashmiri— during a special Constitution Day ceremony at the historic Central Hall of the old Parliament building in New Delhi.
Officials told Gulistan News Tv that the event is scheduled to begin at 11 am and will be attended by top constitutional authorities, including the Vice President, Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, Union Ministers and Members of both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. The ceremony is part of nationwide observances marking Constitution Day, celebrated every year on November 26.
For the first time since the enactment of the Constitution, a complete and officially authenticated digital version will be available in the Kashmiri language. This development is being hailed as a significant milestone for linguistic diversity, cultural recognition and enhanced access to constitutional resources for students, scholars and the general public in Jammu & Kashmir.
Officials involved in the process said the new editions have been prepared by the Legislative Department of the Union Ministry of Law and Justice. The Constitution has been digitised and translated into nine languages — Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia, and Assamese — to ensure wider accessibility across different linguistic communities.
“This initiative is aimed at strengthening constitutional literacy and making the supreme law of the land available to citizens in their own languages,” an official said.
Along with the multilingual digital editions, a special souvenir titled “Art and Calligraphy from the Constitution of India” (Hindi edition) will also be released during the programme. Curated by the Ministry of Culture, the souvenir showcases original artwork and calligraphy that form an integral part of the Constitution’s historical manuscript.
The government’s move is being viewed as a renewed effort to promote constitutional awareness and encourage citizens to engage more deeply with the text. Making the Constitution accessible in Kashmiri and other regional languages is expected to greatly benefit academic institutions, legal researchers, civil society groups and those preparing for competitive examinations.
The digital editions will be hosted on official government portals and are expected to be made available for public download shortly after the launch. The initiative marks a major step toward bridging linguistic gaps and ensuring that the Constitution — the foundation of India’s democracy — reaches every citizen in a language they understand.
