Chennai, Dec 17: Flight operations at Chennai International Airport were disrupted on Wednesday morning as dense fog and adverse weather in Delhi and other northern states forced the cancellation of 11 flights, officials said.

Four outbound flights from Chennai to Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Ghaziabad were cancelled, along with seven inbound flights from Delhi, Jaipur, Patna, Pune, Kolkata, Indore, and other cities. Authorities cited poor visibility, persistent fog, and air pollution across northern India as the main reasons for the disruptions.

Officials noted that flights bound for Delhi were particularly affected, with some unable to land and diverted to alternative airports.

The cancellations caused considerable inconvenience for passengers. While Chennai’s air quality remained satisfactory with an AQI of 95 at 9 am, Delhi continued to struggle with pollution, recording an AQI of 328, classified as ‘very poor’. This marked a slight improvement from Tuesday’s AQI of 354 but left large areas of the national capital still shrouded in smog.
