Uri, The Nand Singh (NS) Bridge in Uri will be officially inaugurated tomorrow (Sunday) by India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh through virtual mode, officials said.
A senior officer from the Uri administration told GNS that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is fully prepared for the ceremony, with senior BRO and civil administration officials set to be present on-site during the virtual inauguration.
The bridge, completed in July this year, spans the Hajipeer Nallah on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road and provides vital connectivity for dozens of villages to the Uri tehsil headquarters, especially those near the Line of Control (LoC).
The historic bridge, earlier a key route for Cross-LoC trade and the ‘Peace Bus service’ to Kaman Post, was severely damaged during the 2005 earthquake. A temporary structure built by BRO had been in use since then, until the completion of the new bridge.
