Srinagar, February 12: The protest by daily wagers continued in Srinagar on Wednesday as workers intensified their agitation over long-pending demands, including regularisation of services and release of unpaid wages.
In a striking development, children of the protesting workers also joined the demonstration in Srinagar, expressing solidarity with their parents. Emotional scenes were witnessed as families gathered at protest sites, raising slogans and seeking justice.
The workers said they have been serving in various government departments for years but continue to face uncertainty over job security and salary payments. They accused the authorities of failing to resolve their issues despite repeated assurances.
Meanwhile, large-scale demonstrations were also reported in Jammu, where daily wagers assembled in significant numbers and demanded immediate government intervention. Security personnel were deployed at key locations to maintain law and order, though the protests remained largely peaceful.
Protest leaders warned that the agitation could be intensified if their demands are not addressed soon. They called on the administration to open dialogue and present a clear roadmap for regularisation and clearance of pending dues.
The situation in both Srinagar and Jammu remains tense but under control, with further protests likely in the coming days.
