Q. A lot of panicking among people about the Black Fungus. They think those who suffer from covid-19 virus will catch Black Fungus too. Your take on this.

This is totally a misconception. Covid-19 is a viral communicable disease. Its epidemic potential is really high and is transmissible. Mucuor mycosis doesn’t spread from person to person. Its pores are present in the air.

Many covid patients suffered from Black Fungus because a lot if steroids are used in a corona patient’s treatment. It leads to immune compromise particularly in patients with uncontrollable diabetes.

The Black Fungus patient in GMC had a sugar level of 900, kidneys compromise and diabetic kenosis. Whenever a body has compromised immune, it attracts fungal infections through eyes, ears, etc. such infections invade our brain, tissues, blood vessels and other important body parts.

Q. Atal Dulloo Ji issued a notice for senior Doctors to come for work. Weren’t they available before?

The mucur mycosis till now has been prevented by the GMC staff. Our team has worked hard day and night since last 14 months. They have the same spirits in them. From 70 to 120 to more than 200 ICU beds have been provided to covid patients in GMC.

I think everyone is misperceiving it. All the Doctors are on their duties. I keep issuing letters for the staff to keep them motivated. Same way, Atal Dulloo Ji wrote that letter to the senior Doctors to personally visit the patients to keep their morals high.

Q. Death rate is continuously increasing. What’s the reason?

Yes. We’ve found that death rate of Jammu is marginally higher than that of Kashmir. But the samples we sent in the NC DC have proved that a variant of concern has been found in Jammu region. It is the same variant found in Gujarat, Maharashtra and some other states. The report came from centre itself that Jammu’s laboratories is one of the best in the Country.

We have done the most RTPCR tests. New 7th laboratory with MCH 200 bedded was recently established. We keep sending our samples to Delhi frequently. They confirmed that a different variant of concern called B.1.617.2 was found in Jammu which is 22 times more transmissible.

Maybe the travellers in Jammu are more in number from the neighbouring states like Punjab. Also, 20% of the patients were brought dead to the Hospital while the others succumbed in the next 12 hours. This is because people don’t take care of themselves. Death rate is more but recovery rate is also quite good.

Q. Many say that the PPE kits are provided to the attendants after the patient’s death and not before that. Your take on this.

Nothing such happens like this. All the covid guidelines are being followed. When a covid patient dies, it sheds more virus. In order to protect the attendants and other people, we provide them PPE kits.

Attendants are kept in restriction. Only 1-2 of them are allowed to meet the patient who are civilised and understand the situation. The main thing is to protect your face and attendants wear their masks. They are told not to come in contact with other family members.

Q. Sir, what do you think would be the topics about J&K in the meeting?

On 5th August, 2019 a very big change happened for Jammu and Kashmir after 72 years. The meeting will surely involve discussions on post abolition of article 370, how J&K can achieve heights of progress and how people can participate in that through elections and delimitations especially the deprived people in J&K like POK people, Western Pakistani refugees, Kashmiri displaced, Gujjars, Bakarwals and Pahadis .

We’ll also talk about the agendas of specific political parties since 72 years which are against the will of J&K public. If they keep extending these topics, they’ll get nothing in return.

Q. Mehbooba Mufti told to talk to Pakistan even when few days back a 25 year old was killed by terrorists. Why this sympathy for terrorism?

This is Jammu’s misfortune that this agenda kept on going for years in the region and did nothing for the public of Jammu as well as Kashmir except handing over guns to the youth. The youngsters now want to work, they want good education and employment but still some parties with the same agenda are destroying everything.

Q. Very few leaders from Jammu have been called for the meeting and some like Choudhary Lal Singh have shown resentment about that. Do you think Jammu’s voice will be raised?

Jammu has a population of around 1.3 crore and every person thinks he’s better than the other. But everyone cannot be called for the meeting. BJP has always raised it’s voice for Jammu region and Nationalist Forces and it will continue doing that. All of us have seen a demo on 5th August. See people attending the meeting will be the ones who will represent National thinking and others will come with same old agendas. So, the meeting will have good and mature discussions.

Q. Lot of talks about Jammu becoming a separate state. Your views on that?

At this moment I feel we need to think how post 5th August we have to do the consolidation, make popular Government, walk towards delimitation and end the imbalance prevailing right now. Rest, everyone has different opinions and different agendas. These things keep going and are discussed in democracy.
