JK media did an exclusive story on the SRTC buses in J&K and noticed rampant corruption and maladministration in the J and K State Road Transport buses that has resulted into an inestimable loss to the SRTC Corporation.
The reporters traveled by JKSRTC Bus from Baderwah to Kishtwar and noticed that the bus operator running on the bus route and the bus conductor don’t issue ticket to the passengers who are mostly unaware of the fact that the bus in which they were traveling is a government bus.
On talking to the passengers, they came to know that the bus conductors never issue tickets to the passengers.
Speaking to Counter Incharge, Farooq Tantre, on the malpractice, he reciprocated that it should be the responsibility of the passengers to ask for the ticket from the conductor. He added that he is responsible for collecting the target revenue from the bus operators and he added that he always make sure that he collects the said revenue, no matter if the operator has to pay it from his own pockets.
He seemed oblivious of the complete state of mismanagement and maladministration in this organisation.
Concerning the timely inspection of the buses, he said that the checking squad is deployed along the routes of the buses and they check the tickets issued to the passengers and fine both passenger and the operator if found without the tickets.
He also reiterated that passenger sometimes, in order to save few bucks travel without a ticket.
Contemplating on the complete state of mismanagement of JKSRTC buses, either the malpractice should be curbed or the JKSRTC should be closed and the assets be auctioned off to the private sector so that the public money may be saved.
